Aussies Abroad Wrap: Mooy, Ryan back in action ahead of Premier League return

Mat Ryan and Aaron Mooy got valuable minutes under their belt, Aziz Behich’s Istanbul Basaksehir sealed a victory in their first match back in the Turkish top flight, and two Aussies secured vital wins in the K League.

Over in England, Brighton played an internal  11 v 11 training match as Ryan and Mooy's side continued preparations ahead of the resumption of the Premier League.

Brighton are set to host Arsenal in their first match back on Sunday at 12am AEST.

Aziz Behich was an unused substitute for Istanbul Basaksehir as they enjoyed a 2-0 win over Alanyaspor in the Turkish SuperLig on Sunday morning.

Two second half goals ensured Istanbul came away with the three points as they stay toe-to-toe with Trabzonspor at the top of the league ladder.

In Korea, Jason Davidson put in a full shift for Ulsan Hyundai as they ran out 1-0 winners against Seongnam on Saturday night.

A last gasp goal from Junior Negrao sealed the points for Ulsan as they retain second spot on the K League table.

Brandon O’Neill played the full game for Pohang Steelers as they recorded a 4-2 victory at Sangju Sangmu.

The win saw Pohang leapfrog their opponents into fourth position on the ladder ahead of their midweek encounter which will see them host table-toppers Jeonbuk.

Adam Taggart and Terry Antonis featured for Suwon Bluewings as they registered a 2-2 stalemate against Gangwon FC.

Taggart’s search for a first goal this season goes on after he was substituted at halftime with the score locked at 1-1.

Antonis also started for the Bluewings and was substituted on the hour mark.

A goal from Kim Min-woo with five minutes remaining ensured that Suwon took a share of the spoils.

Rashid Mahazi was absent for Incheon United as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away to leaders Jeonbuk FC on Saturday night.

A Lee Dong-gook penalty on 56 minutes sentenced Incheon to another defeat which sees them remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, James Jeggo put in a full shift for Austria Wien as they made light work of Mattersburg with a 4-1 triumph on Sunday morning.

Jeggo featured in his usual defensive midfield role as Wien delivered a masterclass performance which saw them secure their first win since the beginning of June.

James Holland picked up an assist for LASK Linz as they went down 3-1 to Red Bull Salzburg on Monday morning.

The Aussie midfielder teed up Marko Raguz on 56 minutes for his side’s only goal before being substituted just after Salzburg scored their third in the 82nd minute.

Awer Mabil and Mustafa Amini geared up for their respective clubs in the Danish Superligaen’s championship playoffs on Sunday.

Mabil took part in the opening hour as his FC Midtylland won 2-0 away to Aalborg.

Amini featured for the final quarter of AGF Aarhus’ 0-0 stalemate against Brondby.

Nikita Rukavytsya and Trent Sainsbury’s Maccabi Haifa couldn’t be separated as they played out a 0-0 stalemate against Beitar Jerusalem in the Israeli Premier League on Sunday morning.

Sainsbury recovered from last week’s knock and joined Rukavytsya in Maccabi’s starting line-up.

Sainsbury played the full 90 minutes while Rukavytsya was unable to find the net against his former outfit and was substituted with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fixture.

Brandon Borrello’s SC Freiburg secured a valuable point on their travels as they drew 2-2 against fellow European hopefuls Wolfsburg on Saturday night.

Borrello wasn’t named in Freiburg’s matchday squad as they fought back from 2-0 down to restore parity and keep their European dreams alive in the process.

Tomi Juric was in action for CSKA Sofia in the Bulgarian Premier League as they went head to head with Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Monday morning.

Juric came on just after the half time interval with his side 1-0 down after they conceded in the opening five minutes of the clash.

Tiago Rodrigues salvaged a point for Sofia with his 83rd minute equaliser.

In the Serbian Superliga, Milos Degenek’s FK Crvena Zvezda suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against TSC Backa Topola on Monday morning.

Degenek started the encounter and featured for just over an hour before being replaced by Nemanja Milunovic, who pulled one back for Red Star on 78 minutes.
