Aussies Abroad Wrap: Irvine & Mooy assist in big wins, Dougall's day out

Aaron Mooy registered two assists as Celtic thumped Martin Boyle's Hibernian 6-1, while Jackson Irvine marked his new contract with an assist in the Hamburg Derby and Kenny Dougall also put in an impressive performance with a goal and an assist in the Championship.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy started, put in a full shift and set up the Celtic’s fourth and sixth goals to James Forrest and Daizen Maeda in a 6-1 win over Martin Boyle's Hibernian on Sunday.

Mooy swooped on a loose ball to instantly play in Forrest for his 58th-minute goal. He then laid off a lofted left-foot diagonal pass into the box for Maeda’s first-time finish in the 89th minute.


Boyle played 90 minutes and also registered an assist for Hibs' goal with the pass to release Elie Youan to score in the 56th minute to make it 3-1.

Aziz Behich also started and played another 90 minutes as Dundee United drew 1-1 with Ross County on Sunday.

Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain both started as St Mirren drew 0-0 with Kilmarnock on Sunday. Strain played the full 90 minutes while Baccus was substituted in the 86th minute.

In England, Kenny Dougall put in an impressive 90-minute performance by scoring a goal and registering an assist as Blackpool drew 3-3 against Sheffield United in the English Championship.

Dougall swung in a cross for Jerry Yates to nod home on the half hour, before capitalizing on a deflected pass falling into his path in the box to fire home in the 50th minute to put Blackpool up 3-2.

Blackpool sit in 19th place, three points clear of the relegation zone.

Riley McGree started on the bench but came on in the 76th minute as Middlesbrough lost 1-2 against Blackburn at home on Sunday.

Bailey Wright started on the bench and came on in the 90th minute as Sunderland defeated Wigan 2-1 in the English Championship on Sunday. Sunderland sit in ninth place, two points off the promotion playoff zone.

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic was an unused substitute as Huddersfield lost 2-1 against Rotherham on Sunday. 

In League Two, Lachlan Brook started on the bench but came on in the 60th minute as Crewe suffered a disappointing loss losing 0-3 against Tranmere on Saturday. Crewe currently sit in 13th place on the table.

Elsewhere in League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was an unused substitute as Salford City lost 1-0 against Bradford City on Sunday.

Europe

Starting in Germany, where Jackson Irvine celebrated his new contract extension with St Pauli by registering an assist as they won the Hamburg Derby over rivals Hamburg SV 3-0 in the German 2.Bundesliga on Friday.

Irvine ran out another 90 minutes and cut the ball back for Marcel Hartel’s 74th-minute goal, while Connor Metcalfe was thrust into the action in the 86th minute. St Pauli sit in 10th place on the table, eight points off the promotion zone.


In Demark, Mat Ryan was an unused substitute as FC Copenhagen drew 1-1 with Brøndby IF on Sunday.

Elsewhere in Denmark, Joel King was an unused substitute as Odense Boldklub drew 0-0 with Viborg on Sunday.

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic started and put in a positive 54-minute performance in Hellas Verona's 2-1 loss against AC Milan on Monday.

In France, Denis Genreau came on in the 86 minute as Toulouse FC won 3-2 against Angers on Sunday.

In Belgium, Jason Davidson and James Jeggo both started and played 90 minutes as K.A.S. Eupen lost 5-1 against Cercle Brugge on Sunday.

In Spain, Awer Mabil was unused for the fourth straight game as Cadiz drew 1-1 at Girona in La Liga on Sunday.

Tyrese Francois started and played 97 minutes as HNK Gorica lost 1-0 against Hajduk Split on Sunday in the Croatian Football League. 

In Olyroos abroad news, Alou Kuol started and play 45 minutes as VfB Stuttgart II lost 2-0 against on Kickers Offenbach on Sunday.

Asia & The Middle East

Starting in the J2 League, where Mitch Duke started and played 90 minutes as Fagiano Okayama suffered a disappointing last-minute 2-1 loss against Blaublitz Akita on Sunday. 

Fagiano need maximum points from their remaining two games and Yokohama FC to drop points if they are to secure a top-two finish and automatic promotion. A third-place finish will ensure a playoff with the third-bottom team from the J1 League.

Elsewhere in the J2 League, Thomas Deng started and played 90 minutes as Albirex Niigata lost 1-0 against Tokyo Verdy on Saturday. Despite the result, it saw Deng's side secure the league title. 

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge started and played 90 minutes in Incheon United's 1-1 drew against Pohang Steelers on Sunday in a play-off as the Final Rounds continue.

In Qatar, Trent Sainsbury started an played 90 minutes Al-Wakrah drew 2-2 with Al Ahli on Saturday in the final Qatar Stars Cup group stage match.

Europe

  • In the Netherlands, Dylan Ryan started, played 90 mins and helped FC Den Bosch to a win and a clean sheet. They defeated Jong Az Alkmaar 3-0 in the Eerste Divisie on Saturday.
  • In France's Ligue 2, Alex Gersbach started and played 90 minutes in Grenoble Foot 38's 3-0 win against Niort on Sunday.
  • In Croatia, Anthony Kalik started and played 63 minutes as Hajduk Split beat Deni Juric's HNK Gorica 1-0 in the Croatian Football League on Sunday. Juric also started and played 61 minutes.
  • In Greece, Bruce Kamau came off the bench in the 80th minute as FI Crete FC drew 2-2 with PAS Giannina on Monday.

United Kingdom

  • In the England Championship, Dean Bouzanis made a rare start for Reading with first-choice keeper Joe Lumley unwell, but they lost 2-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
  • In League One, Caleb Watts made his return from an ankle injury as a 67th-minute substitute in Morecambe’s 1-1 draw at Burton Albion on Sunday.
  • Elsewhere in League One, Jack Iredale started on the bench and came on at half time as Bolton lost 0-1 away from home against Forest Green on Sunday.
