Aussies Abroad Wrap: Mooy assists, Devlin impresses

Aaron Mooy continued his impressive recent form with another assist for Celtic while Cameron Devlin also put in a standout performance for Hearts in another big weekend of Aussies Abroad action.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy continued his impressive form with another 90 minutes and an assist in a 4-3 victory over Cameron Devlins's Heart of Midlothian on Saturday.

Mooy swung in a fantastic corner that Giorgos Giakoumakis headered home to hand Celtic an equaliser in the 55th minute to make it 2-2. It's Mooy's third assist in two games. 

Devlin was also in the thick of the action with his aggressive pressing and tenacious tackling which earned his team two penalties. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, Ryan Strain and Keanu Baccus both played another 90 minutes as St Mirren beat Dundee United 2-1 on Sunday. 

Aziz Behich also played minutes and was involved in Dundee United's equaliser by delivering a tantalising cross that was headered back across goal and poked home.


Martin Boyle put in another impressive display but it was not enough as Hibernian lost 2-1 at home to Ryan McGowan‘s Kilmarnock on Friday. Both players played full games.

In England, Tom Rogic came off the bench in the 74th minute as West Bromwich Albion lost 2-1 to Millwall on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Riley McGree came off the bench in the 68th minute in Middlesbrough’s 0-0 home draw with Huddersfield while Kenny Dougall put in a full shift for Blackpool in a 4-2 home win over Preston North End.

It was an important win for Blackpool as they move three points clear of the relegation zone.


Bailey Wright was also an unused substitute as Sunderland lost 4-2 to Burnley on Sunday.

In injury news, Harry Souttar started and played 71 minutes as he steps up his return from an ACL injury by featuring for Stoke City’s U21s in a 3-2 loss against Sunderland's U21s on Sunday.


In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic was an unused substitute in Huddersfield's 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough on Sunday. 

In League Two, Lachlan Brook came off the bench in the 83rd minute as Crewe Alexandra drew 1-1 with Doncaster on Sunday.

Elsewhere in League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was an unused substitute in Salford City's 2-0 loss to Stockport on Sunday.

Europe

Starting in Spain, where Awer Mabil made his first appearance for Cádiz CF since September 10, coming on as an 81st minute substitute in their 5-1 loss away to Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Saturday. Cádiz are in 19th place on the table, two points from safety.

In Germany, Jackson Irvine started and played 88 minutes as St. Pauli suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss against Arminia on Sunday. Connor Metcalfe also came off the bench in the 81st minute. 

In Denmark, Mat Ryan was relegated back to the bench after his midweek Danish Cup heroics for  FC Copenhagen’s 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga on Sunday.

Elsewhere in Denmark, Joel King came off the bench in the 76th minute as Odense Boldklub defeated Lyngby 3-1 on Saturday. Odense are undefeated in their last six games.

In France, Denis Genreau came off the bench in the 94th minute as Toulouse FC drew 2-2 with Strasbourg on Monday.

In Belgium, Jason Davidson and James Jeggo both started in K.A.S. Eupen 2-1 loss against Mechelen on Sunday. Davison played the full 90 while Jeggo was substituted in the 79th minute. 

Tyrese Francois started and played 45 minutes as HNK Gorica lost 2-1 against NK Lokomotiva on Sunday in the Croatian Football League. 

In Olyroos abroad news, Alou Kuol started and played 64 minutes as VfB Stuttgart II lost 1-0 against Astoria Walldorf on Sunday.

Asia

In the J2 League, Mitch Duke started on the bench and came on in the 60th minute as Fagiano Okayama suffered a 2-0 loss against Tokyo Verdy on Sunday.

Fagiano have one more game of the J2 League season before they prepare for a play off with the third-bottom team from the J1 League for promotion after securing a third place finish with one game remaining. 

Elsewhere in the J2 League, Thomas Deng started and played 90 minutes as Albirex Niigata beat Machida Zelvia 2-1 on Sunday.

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge started and played 90 minutes in Incheon United's 2-1 loss against Jeonbuk on Sunday in a play-off as the Final Rounds wrapped up.

  • In Austria, James Holland came off the bench in the 89th minute as FK Austria Wien drew 2-2 against LASK on Monday in the Austrian Bundesliga.
  • In Germany, John Iredale came off the bench in the 74th minute as SV Wehen Wiesbaden lost 2-1 against 1860 Munich on Saturday in the 3. Liga.
  • In Croatia, Deni Juric started, played 72 minutes and provided an assist in HNK Gorica’s 2-1 loss away to Lokomotiva Zagreb on Saturday in the Croatian Football League.

United Kingdom

  • In League One, Caleb Watts was an unused substitute as Morecambe lost 1-0 against Barnsley on Sunday.
  • Elsewhere in League One, Jack Iredale came off the bench in the 53rd minute as Bolton Wanderers won 3-2 against Accrington Stanley on Sunday.

  • In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya was an unused substitute as Maccabi Haifa won 3-2 against H. Kiryat Shmona on Sunday.
