Aussies Abroad: Mabil’s Midtjylland lose ground in race for Danish Superliga title

Awer Mabil’s FC Midtjylland came from two goals down to salvage a draw in the Danish Superliga on Tuesday morning (AEDT) but lost crucial ground in the race for the title.

With 20 minutes left, the Caltex Socceroos winger’s side trailed 3-1 at home against Nordsjaelland before two goals in two minutes from Brazilian Evander saw Midtjylland secure a 3-3 draw.

Mabil, who has been a key figure in Midtjylland’s outstanding campaign so far – scoring five goals and providing 11 assists – was heavily marked by the visitors who were desperate to quell his threat.

The 23-year-old flyer got through 68 minutes for his side, which remains in second spot but now trail league-leaders FC Copenhagen by three points after 24 games.

There are now just two games remaining in the Superliga season, with Midtjylland away to struggling Hobro in their next league match, while Copenhagen travels to Nordsjaelland.
