Aussies Abroad: Mabil stars as Midtjylland secure another crucial win in Denmark

Awer Mabil was one of FC Midtjylland’s best as the Danish Super League leaders overcame Silkeborg 2-1 on Tuesday morning.

The Caltex Socceroos winger played the full 90 minutes for the hosts who dominated from the outset against the league’s bottom club.

Mabil’s pace and movement was a constant threat to the visitors in another eye-catching display from the young Aussie.

Midtjylland went in front on 15 minutes when Emiliano Marcondes finished off after some excellent work Swedish star Joel Andersson in the build-up.

Despite creating a stack of chances, it wasn’t until 17 minutes from time when Midtjylland doubled their lead after a tidy finish from Rasmus Nicolaisen.

Silkeborg set up a nervy finish when they halved the deficit four minutes from time but Midtjylland held on for their 15th win from 18 games so far this season.

Brian Priske’s side have now opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the ladder from last season’s champions FC Copenhagen.

Mabil and Midtjylland are next in action next Monday morning (4am AEDT) when they travel to fourth-place Brondby.
