Aussies Abroad: Mabil scores stunning winner for Midtjylland

Awer Mabil says his less favoured left foot is on its way to becoming 'quite scary' after the Caltex Socceroo scored a stunning goal overnight for FC Midtjylland.

Mabil cut inside from the right flank and unleashed a thunderous left-footed drive just before half time which left Odense BK 'keeper Oliver Christensen with no chance and doubled The Wolves' advantage having earlier broken the deadlock via Evander.

Bashkim Kadrii notched a 57th minute reply for OB but Mabil's side remained in control and secured a 2-1 victory, their sixth straight league win, and one which preserves a seven-point lead over title rivals Copenhagen at the summit.

Mabil has started all six of those Danish Superliga victories, posting three assists and a goal, all from the right wing.

As the 24-year-old reflected to Midtjylland's official website after the game, this morning's effort was another reminder that the former Adelaide United flyer is now able to produce the spectacular on his 'weaker' left side.

"Most defenders think I'm going to the right, but now they need to sharpen up, because I can also go to the left," he said.

"I am purposefully training to get a better left foot, and today I did not even hit it the way I wanted to.

"It was a nice goal, but I keep training the left leg, so it will end up being quite scary at some point."

This morning's match-winner is not the only long-range effort Mabil has produced with his left foot this year.

In January, the forward produced a wonderful curling strike the open the scoring against Syria in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Mabil's Midtjylland return home to face Silkeborg in their next Danish Superliga encounter.

That one kicks off at 5.00am AEDT, Tuesday December 3.
