A return for an Aussie speedster in Germany and points shared in England.

There were two key Caltex Socceroos in action overnight – how’d they do?

GERMANY

Mat Leckie made his first appearance of the season, coming off the bench in Hertha Berlin’s massive 2-0 win over German giants Bayern Munich.

It’s a win which has propelled Leckie’s side to equal first with Bayern on the ladder, but they could still be jumped by Borussia Dortmund or Werder Bremen who play Saturday night and Sunday morning (AEST).

On a personal note for Leckie, his 20 minutes off the bench is an encouraging cameo after spending two months on the sideline with a knee injury.

Hertha take on Mainz next week, where more minutes will potentially hold Leckie in good stead for the upcoming international break and Australia’s match in Kuwait.

ENGLAND

Mile Jedinak continued his good form in the backline, playing 90 minutes in Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Bristol City.

It’s a result which pushes them up to 11th on the Championship ladder, but they could fall as low as 15th after the remainder of the weekend’s fixtures.

Of course, Bailey Wright is a key man for Bristol City but he wasn’t risked after having spent time on the sidelines through injury.

He was still a key figure on match day though: up in the stands calling the match for Bristol City TV.
