Aussies Abroad: Gersbach plays 90 minutes in NAC Breda debut

Alex Gersbach hasn’t taken long to settle into his new club after making his debut for NAC Breda during their 3-0 loss at the hands of De Graafschap in the Eredivisie on Saturday morning AEDT.

The 21-year-old Caltex Socceroos defender made the move to the Dutch club from Norwegian giants Rosenberg during the January transfer window and was thrust straight into Breda’s starting 11, playing the full 90 minutes.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel after the match, Gersbach revealed he was ready and willing to play despite not knowing the team sheet.

“I wasn’t sure, we only found out a couple of hours before the game because there were a few injuries in the squad and the coach left it late to name the starting team so I wasn’t sure but I was prepared as always and felt like I was ready,” he said.

“My legs were fine to be honest, I had energy and thought I was getting up and down the wing ok so physically it was perfect, it was fine.”

The former Sydney FC fullback becomes the third Caltex Socceroo based in the Netherlands alongside Trent Sainsbury and Aziz Behich.
