Aussies Abroad: Borrello's Freiburg continue great Bundesliga start

Brandon Borrello's Freiburg are one point off leaders Bayern Munich after a come from behind 2-1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Monday morning (AEST).

Caltex Socceroos attacker Borrello was an unused substitute as Christian Streich's side continued their best-ever start to a Bundesliga season.

Borrello's side went behind when Dusseldorf's Rouwen Hennings broke the deadlock on 42 minutes, however, Freiburg's Jonathan Schmid delivered a quickfire response on the stroke of half time.

Luca Waldschmidt secured the win in the 81st minute, ensuring Freiburg remain in third position, one point off leaders and reigning German champions Bayern.

Meanwhile, Hertha Berlin and Mathew Leckie moved up to 10th after hammering FC Koln 4-0 away from home.

Leckie was also an unused substitute as Vedad Ibisevic's double and a strike each from Javairo Dilrosun and Dedryck Boyata helped the The Old Lady cruise to their second Bundesliga win on the trot.

Mabil's Midtjylland slip up

In the Danish Superliga, Awer Mabil's FC Midtjylland slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at home to OB.

The Caltex Socceroos forward was serving a suspension following the red card he picked up in last weekend's 0-0 draw with Copenhagen.

Midtjylland are one point ahead of Copenhagen on the Danish Superliga table.
