Aussies Abroad: Awer Mabil nets late Midtjylland winner

Awer Mabil secured a valuable three points for FC Midtjylland on Tuesday morning (AEDT), slotting home a stoppage-time winner to secure his side a 2-1 victory over Randers.

The Socceroos forward's first goal of the Danish Superliga season came at the perfect time, as he made the desired impact after being introduced off the bench with less than half an hour to play.

Speaking to FC Midtjylland post-game, Mabil was pleased to come away with the win and is looking forward to some season-defining contests in the coming weeks.

"It's nice to get the three points, that's the most important thing," he said, "It's also nice to do it the way we did it.

"It's just a reminder that we still have that winning mentality that we had last season - and the way we won games last season.

"Now is the time where you win the league, so that mentality is starting to come into play now, and today was just the first of many to come.

"My season is just starting now. Obviously I was on the bench but I know how good I can be so whenever I'm on the field, I'll do my thing.

"Today was a good example to be able to get the points for the team."

The result took Mabil's side up to second in the Superliga, just one point behind competition leaders Brondby.

Two points behind sit AGF Aarhus, the club outfit of fellow Australians Daniel Arzani, Alex Gersbach and Zach Duncan.

Arzani came off the bench in the 90th minute to make his debut for AGF on the weekend as they enjoyed a 1-0 home victory over Lyngby.
