Aussies Abroad: Arzani makes Celtic comeback after 15-month layoff

More than a year after making his Celtic debut, Daniel Arzani completed his comeback from knee surgery to play only his second senior match for the Bhoys.

The Socceroos young gun came off the bench in the 85th minute, to replace Aussie teammate Tom Rogic, in Celtic’s 2-1 away win against Patrick Thistle in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup .

Arzani suffered a devastating ACL in jury while making his bow for the 50-time Scottish Champions in a 5-0 win against Dundee in October 2018 which ruled him out for 11 months.

The 20-year-old played in a reserve match against Hibernian in September 2019 but suffered a setback that kept him sidelined for another four months.

Arzani, who starred for the Socceroos at the FIFA World Cup 2018, made his long-awaited return in relief of Rogic – who had a hand in both Celtic goals – as Neil Lennon’s side advanced to the last 16 of Scotland’s FA Cup.

Leigh Griffiths put the visitors ahead on 12 minutes after Rogic's surge into the box and Callum McGregor doubled the lead from the Wizard of Oz's pass, before Stuart Bannigan grabbed a stoppage-time consolation for the Jags.
