Aussies Abroad: Metcalfe’s rocket, Kuol’s stunner, Goodwin goal on debut

Goals, assists, clean sheets! Several Socceroos impacted the scoresheet or played their part in protecting it in a big weekend for Aussies Abroad!

Subway Socceroos

Starting in Germany, where Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) played a full game, assisted and scored an absolute screamer for St. Pauli in a 5-1 win against Holstein Kiel on Monday. The 23-year-old also boasted a 90% passing accuracy rating while making two interceptions and two clearances.

In the Netherlands, Garang Kuol (cap #627) scored to hand Volendam FC a 1-0 lead over Fortuna Sittard in the 40th minute before they went on to lose 3-1 as Kuol played 79 minutes in the Eredivisie on Sunday. 

Elsewhere in the Netherlands, Maty Ryan (cap #555) returned to Eredivisie action with a clean sheet and a 2-0 win as AZ Alkmaar hosted Sparta Rotterdam on Monday. AZ have won the opening four games and are equal first in the league alongside PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente.

In Saudi Arabia, Craig Goodwin (cap #562) came off the bench at half time to score on his second debut for Al Wehda as they beat Damac 4-2 on Friday.

Over to Scotland, where Ryan Strain (cap #624) grabbed an assist and played until the 83rd minute in a very good performance for St Mirren while Keanu Baccus (cap #628) came on for the second half in a 1-0 win over Motherwell on Sunday.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Martin Boyle (cap #599), James Jeggo (cap #601) and Olyroo Lewis Miller all played full matches in Nick Montgomery's first match in charge of Hibernian as they drew 2-2 with Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) played full games, while Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620)  also started and came off in the 50th minute as Heart of Midlothian FC beat Aberdeen 2-0 on Sunday. Subway Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof also made his return from injury. Devlin completed 87% of his passes and won 12 duels.

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played a full game for Hamilton in a 2-1 win over Alloa Athletic on Sunday.

In the English Championship, Sammy Silvera (cap #634) came off the bench in the 69th minute while Riley McGree (cap #609) also came off the bench in the 77th minute as Middlesbrough lost 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday. Tom Glover was on the bench.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Cameron Burgess played a full game for Ipswitch Town after making his national team debut as they beat second-bottom Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 on Sunday. Ipswich have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, sitting equal second - one point off the top. Burgess recorded 13 clearances and five interceptions in the win.

Massimo Luongo (cap #571) also played a full game for Ipswich.

In League One, Ashley Maynard-Brewer was on the bench for Charlton on Sunday in a 1-1 draw with Stevenage.

Alex Robertson (cap #630) started and was substituted in the 90th minute for Portsmouth FC in a 1-1 draw against Derby County on Sunday in League One. Callum Elder (cap #614) also started and came off in the 57th minute for Derby.

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) came on in the 57th minute in League One for Blackpool as they lost 2-0 to Wycombe on Sunday.

In Switzerland, Awer Mabil (cap #597) started and played 58 minutes in the Swiss Cup for Grasshopper Club Zürich as they lost 3-0 to fellow Aussie Liam Chipperfield's FC Sion on Saturday. Chipperfield played 58 minutes as well.

In Italy's Serie B, Alessandro Circati played a full game for Parma and helped keep a clean sheet as they beat US Catanzaro 5-0 on Monday.

In Belgium, Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) came off the bench in the 73rd minute for Standard Liege while Jason Davidson (cap #545) played a full game for KAS Eupen as Liege won 5-1 on Sunday.

In France, Denis Genreau (cap #610) played 72 minutes for Toulouse FC as they continued the Ligue 1 season with a 0-0 draw against Marseille on Monday. The 24-year-old notched a 68% passing accuracy rating, performed two successful dribbles and 12 recoveries.

Milos Degenek (cap #585) was an unused substitute for FK Crvena Zvezda in Serbia as they lost 2-1 to FK Čukarički on Sunday.

In Norway, Nick D’Agostino (cap #621) came on in the 72nd minute for Viking FK in a 2-0 win over FK Haugesund on Sunday while Subway Olyroo Patrick Yazbek came on in the 62nd minute. Viking are now 12 games unbeaten and sit two points clear at the top of the Eliteserien after 22 matches.

Over to Japan, where Thomas Deng (cap #598) played another full game in the J1 League on Sunday as Albirex Niigata drew 1-1 with Gamba Osaka.

Mitch Langerak (cap #566) was in goal for Nagoya Grampus as they lost 1-0 to Avispa Fukuoka on Saturday.

Mitch Duke (cap #559) also played 69 minutes in the J2 League again on Sunday as Machida Zelvia drew 0-0 with Fujieda MYFC. Machida are five points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge (cap #623) played 90 minutes for Incheon United as they beat Jeju 2-1 on Saturday as they bounced back from their first defeat in three matches.

In Major League Soccer, Brad Smith (cap #575) came off the bench in the 74th minute for Houston Dynamo on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with St Louis. 

Subway Olyroos

Starting in the English Premier League, Tyrese Francois was on the bench for Fulham as they beat Luton Town 1-0 on Sunday.

In the Championship, Nectarios Triantis was on the bench for Sunderland in a 3-1 loss to QPR on Sunday.

In League One, Caleb Watts came on in the 59th minute and scored the winner for his new club as Exeter City beat Cameron Peupion's Cheltenham Town 1-0 on Sunday. Peupion came on in the 87th minute for Cheltenham.

Elsewhere in League One, Nicholas Bilokapic was in goal for Peterborough United in a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient on Sunday.

In League Two, Jay Rich-Baghuelou played a full game for Accrington Stanley as they beat Aussie Dean Bouzanis' Sutton United 4-1 on Sunday. The defender recently defender signed an improved two-year contract with the club. 

Lewis Miller played a full match in Hibs return to Scottish Premiership as they drew 2-2 with Kilmarnock on Sunday.

As previously mentioned, Patrick Yazbekb came on in the 62nd minute for Viking FK in a 2-0 win over FK Haugesund in Norway on Sunday. 

As alluded to Calem Nieuwenhof returned from injury and was introduced in the 50th minute for Hearts.

In Poland, Louis D'Arrigo made his debut for Lechia Gdańsk as he came off the bench in the 87 minute in a 0-0 draw with Odra Opole on Sunday.

Subway Young Socceroos/U18

Adrian Segecic played a full game for Dutch Eerste Divisie side FC Dordrecht as they drew 3-3 with Jong FC Utrecht on Saturday.

In Norway, Keegan Jelacic came off the bench at half time to feature for Stabæk Fotball in a 1-0 loss against Brann on Monday.
