Aussies Abroad: Mabil could debut in Switzerland, Cummings scores in AFC Cup play-offs 

Awer Mabil could make his debut t for Grasshopper Club Zürich in Switzerland, while Jason Cummings fired Mohun Bagan into the AFC Cup during the week.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-offs, Maty Ryan (cap #555) also started for AZ Alkmaar's 1-1 UEFA Europa Conference League play-off draw against Brann on Friday.

Martin Boyle (cap #599) also played a full game while James Jeggo (cap #601) came off the bench at half time in Hibernian's 5-0 UEFA Europa Conference League play-off loss to Aston Villa on Thursday. Olyroo Lewis Miller also played 90 minutes. 


They return to Scottish Premiership action on Sunday at 12am (AEST) when they host Livingston. 

Elsewhere in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-offs, Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) played 90 minutes while Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) was substituted in the 90th minute in a 2-1 loss to Greek side PAOK on Friday. Subway Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof did not feature.

They return to Scottish Premiership action on Monday at 12am (AEST) against Dundee. 

Elsewhere in the Scottish Premiership, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) and Ryan Strain's (cap #624) St Mirren will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when host Aberdeen on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Ryan McGowan's (cap #546) St Johnstone also face Celtic on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Over to  England, where Riley McGree (cap #609) and Middlesbrough will be searching for their first win of the Championship season when they travel to West Brom on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Subway Olyroo Sammy Silvera is also likely to feature, while Tom Glover is expected to be on the bench.

Boro are winless at league level since April 19 but manager Michael Carrick labelled his team’s efforts as ‘really encouraging’ so a first win should not be far away. 

Elsewhere in the Championship, Massimo Luongo (cap 571) and fellow Aussie Cameron Burgess are likely to feature for Ipswich Town as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the season and remain at the top of the table when they host Leeds United on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

Harry Souttar's Leicester City also face Rotherham on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

In League One, Alex Robertson (cap #630) came off the bench in the 62nd minute and scored a penalty in Portsmouth's 5-4 shootout win over Fulham U21 after the Football League Trophy match finished 3-3 on Wednesday.

Robertson could feature for Portsmouth when they face Stevenage on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) is also likely to be in action when Blackpool travel to Lincoln City on Sunday at 12am (AEST) in League One action, while Callum Elder's (cap #614) Derby County face Subway Olyroo Nicholas Bilokapic's Peterborough United at the same time. 

In the AFC Asian Champions League play-offs, Harrison Delbridge (cap #623) played a full game on Wednesday for Incheon United as they beat Hai Phong 3-1 in extra time to advance. 

Following the result, they were drawn into Group G of the AFC Asian Champions League alongside Yokohama FC, Kaya FC and Shandong Taishan.

They return to K1 League action on Friday at 8pm (AEST) when they face fellow Aussie Lachlan Jackson's Suwon FC. 

Over to India, where Jason Cummings (cap #626) played 85 minutes and scored a goal from the penalty spot in Mohun Bagan's 3-1 win over Abahani Dhaka on Wednesday night in the AFC Cup play-offs.


Following the result, Mohan Bagan were drawn into Group D of the AFC Cup with Bashundhara Kings, Maziya and Odisha. 

Trent Sainsbury (cap #574) played a full game for Al-Wakrah SC in the AFC Asian Champions League play-offs on Wednesday as they lost 1-0 to Navbahor. 

He could feature again when they return to Qatar Stars League action on Monday at 3:30am (AEST).

In Switzerland, Awer Mabil (cap #597) could make his debut for Grasshopper Club Zürich against Luzern on Monday at 12:30am (AEST).


Mabil signed a two-year contract with an option for a third after struggling to nail down regular game time over the past two years at Cadiz in Spain's LaLiga.

Over to the Austrian Bundesliga, where James Holland (cap #508) could be in action for Austria Vienna when they face his old side LASK on Monday at 1am (AEST). The 34-year-old made 118 appearances from 2017–2022.

The Belgian First Division A will also continue for Jordan Bos (cap #632) as he could start again for KVC Westerlo when they look to pick up their first win of the campaign against Mechelen on Sunday at 12am (AEST). After drawing their first match of the campaign, Westerlo have now lost three games in a row. 

Elsewhere in Belgium, Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) could start again for Standard Liege when they face K.V. Kortrijk on Sunday at 4:45am (AEST). O'Neill has started every game of the season so far. 

Jason Davidson (cap #545) could also be in action in Belgium when KAS Eupen face Oud-Heverlee Leuven on Sunday at 2:15am (AEST). 

Over to Germany, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) and Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) are likely to be in action in the 2 Bundesliga when St. Pauli face 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday at 9:30pm (AEST). 


Milos Degenek (cap #585) could also start again for FK Crvena Zvezda in Serbia when they face FK Voždovac on Sunday at 3am (AEST). 

Denis Genreau (cap #610) could also be in action when Toulouse continue the Ligue 1 season against Strasbourg on Sunday at 11pm (AEST). Toulouse are undefeated in their first two matches. 

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) is a chance to feature for Hellas Verona when they continue their Serie A season against Roma on Sunday at 4:45am (AEST). 

In Serie B, Alessandro Circati will look to continue Parma's unbeaten start to the season when they face A.S. Cittadella on Sunday at 4:30am (AEST).

Moving across to Asia, where Thomas Deng (cap #598) is likely to be in action when Albirex Niigata travel to Kashima Antlers on Saturday at 7pm (AEST) in the J1 League. 

Mitch Langerak's (cap #566) Nagoya Grampus also host Cerezo Osaka on Saturday at 8pm (AEST) in the J1 League. 

Mitch Duke (cap #559) is likely to feature in the J2 League again on Saturday at 7pm (AEST) when Machida Zelvia face Montedio Yamagata. Machida are six points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand. 

Finally, in Major League Soccer, Brad Smith (cap #575) could be in action for Houston Dynamo when they face Real Salt Lake City on Sunday at 11:30am (AEST).

Smith scored two minutes after coming off the bench in the Dynamo's 5-0 thrashing of Portland Timbers last weekend.

Starting in the Football League Trophy, where Cameron Peupion started and played 78 minutes for Brighton & Hove Albion U21 as they beat Walsall 3-2 on Thursday. 

As previously mentioned Sam Silvera likely to feature in Boro's Championship match against West Brom on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Nicholas Bilokapic is likely to be in goal for Peterborough United when they face Derby County in League One on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

Nectarios Triantis could feature in the Championship for Sunderland on Sunday at 12am (AEST) when they travel to Coventry.

Elsewhere in England, Jay Rich-Baghuelou is likely to play for Accrington Stanley in League One when they face Salford City on  Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Lewis Miller is also likely to feature in Scottish Premiership action on Sunday at 12am (AEST) when Hibs host Livingston. He also played 90 minutes on Friday in the UEFA Conference League. 

Calem Nieuwenhof  could also feature in the Scottish Premiership action on Monday at 12am (AEST) against Dundee.

  • After a blistering start to life with Portsmouth, Kusini Yengi will unfortunately miss the next six to eight weeks with an ankle injury.
  • Cameron Burgess could also feature in the Championship when Ipswich Town FC host Leeds United on Sunday at 12am (AEST).
  • In League One, Jack Iredale could be in action for Bolton when they face Burton FC on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 
  • Ashley Maynard-Brewer is also likely to feature for Charlton on Sunday at 12am (AEST) when they face Oxford United in League One action. 
  • In Serie A, Cristian Volpato could feature for Sassuolo when they face Napoli on Monday at 4:45am (AEST).
  • In Serie B, Jahce Novello could feature for Cosenza Calcio against Venezia on Sunday at 2am (AEST).
