Aussies Abroad: Mooy's Celtic wins treble, Hrustic's Hellas Verona to face relegation play-off

Despite missing out due to injury, Aaron Mooy's Celtic completed a historic eighth treble with a Scottish Cup Final win while it was confirmed that Ajdin Hrustic's Hellas Verona will play a relegation play-off to decide their Serie A fate.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy was absent as Celtic won the treble with a 3-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC on Sunday in the Scottish Cup Final.

Mooy has not taken to the field since Celtic won the league at Tynecastle on May 7 however, his impact on the campaign should not be overlooked. He has netted seven goals and assisted eleven more, while contributing to many other important moments.

In England, Alexander Robertson was also absent from Manchester City's 2-1 FA Cup Final win over Manchester United on Sunday.

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic was an unused substitute as Hellas Verona FC lost 3-1 against AC Milan on Monday. Verona and Spezia finished level on points and will play each other in a relegation play-off to decide their Serie A fate.

Goal difference was removed as a tie-break for the title and relegation this season. 

In Norway, Gianni Stensness played a full game and scored a goal while Nick D’Agostino came on in the 77th minute on Monday as Viking lost 4-3 to Molde.

Subway Olyroo Patrick Yazbek was an unused substitute. 

In France, Denis Genreau started and played 60 minutes for Toulouse FC in a 2-1 win over Monaco on Sunday in their final game of the season. Toulouse finished in 13th place in their first season back in the French top division. 

In a season with some injury struggles, Genreau finished the campaign with one assist in seven Ligue 1 starts and 13 substitute appearances.

Over to the MLS, Alex Gersbach was an unused substitute for Colorado Rapids on Sunday as they drew 0-0 with San Jose.

Brad Smith was also an unused substitute for Houston Dynamo on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to St Louis.

Over to Asia, where Mitch Langerak was in goal for Nagoya Grampus in a 3-1 win over Cerezo Osaka on Saturday in the J1 League. 

In the J2 League, Mitch Duke started and played 72 minutes as Machida Zelvia bounced back with a 2-0 win over JEF United on Saturday. 

Machida are eight points clear at the top of the table.

Olyroos and Subway Young Socceroos

In the German 3. Liga, John Iredale came off the bench in the 72nd minute and scored a goal in a 4-0 for SV Wehen Wiesbaden over Armina in the 2 Bundesliga play-out first leg on Saturday.

  • In Italy's Serie A, Cristian Volpato was an unused substitute for AS Roma in a 2-1 win over Spezia on Monday.
  • In Serie B, Alex Circati started and came off in the 51st minute for Parma in a 0-0 draw (3-2 aggregate loss) with Cagliari Calcio in the play-off semi final.
  • In the Primera Federación, Ryan Edwards came on in the 58th minute for Amorebieta in a 3-0 loss to Racing de Ferrol on Sunday.
  • In the J2 League, Stefan Mauk played 90 minutes and scored a goal as Fagiano Okayama beat Tokushima Vortis 2-0 on Saturday.
  • In the K1 League, Alex Grant played a full game for Pohang Steelers in a 4-2 loss to Gwangju on Saturday.
  • Elsewhere in the K1 League, Lachlan Jackson also played a full game for Suwon FC in a 2-1 win over Suwon Bluewings on Saturday. 
  • In the K2 League, Patrick Flottmann played a full game for Seongnam FC in a 2-0 loss against Asan on Saturday.
  • In the USL Championship, Panos Armenakas came on in the 80th minute to debut for his new club Phoenix Rising in a 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
