Aussies Abroad: Irvine assists but St Pauli promotion hopes end, Ryan gets another clean sheet

In another exciting weekend of Aussies Abroad action, Jackson Irvine assisted as St Pauli's promotion hopes ended despite a thrilling 4-3 win while Ryan Strain and Keanu Baccus featured as St Mirren took a point from Celtic.

Starting in Germany, where Jackson Irvine played another full game and assisted while Connor Metcalfe came off the bench in the 79th minute as St Pauli's slim promotion play-off chances ended despite a 4-3 win over Holstein Kiel on Saturday.

St. Pauli, who are in fourth place, had a slim chance of securing the promotion playoff spot with one game remaining. However, their hopes were dashed when their third-placed rivals, Hamburg SV, won 2-1 against Greuther Furth in a later kick-off, ensuring that St. Pauli's chances were extinguished.

Over to Italy's Serie A, where Ajdin Hrustic was back on the Hellas Verona bench for the first time since January after fighting back from injury as they lost 3-1 at Atalanta on Saturday. The result leaves Verona in 18th, in the drop zone, with two games to play.

In Scotland, Keanu Baccus played a full game while Ryan Strain started and played 83 minutes as St Mirren picked up a point in a 2-2 draw with Celtic on Sunday. Aaron Mooy did not play for Celtic due to soreness. 

The point leaves St Mirren two points behind fifth-top Hibernian, who lost to Rangers on Sunday, as they look to qualify for European football for the first time since 1987.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Cameron DevlinKye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson all played full games while Garang Kuol was an unused substitute in Heart of Midlothian's 2-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday. 

Hearts stay fourth, but have narrowed the gap to Aberdeen in third to just two points with two games of the season remaining with the prize of guaranteed group stage European football potentially at stake.

James Jeggo started and played 59 minutes while Subway Olyroo Lewis Miller came off the bench in the 81st minute for Hibernian in a 3-1 loss to Rangers on Sunday. 

At the other end of the Scottish Premiership post-split fixtures, Aziz Behich was on track to play a full game but he received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 94th minute as Dundee United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Livingston on Sunday.

The Tangerines have lost all three games since the league split last month and are two points adrift at the foot of the table with just two matches remaining.

Ryan McGowan also played 90 minutes for St Johnstone in a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday. 

In the Scottish Championship play-offs, Dylan McGowan played a full match for Hamilton Academical as his team lost in penalties 6-5 to miss out on promotion against Airdrieonians FC.

In the Netherlands, Maty Ryan was in goal as AZ Alkmaar returned to Eredivisie action with a 3-0 over NEC Nijmegen on Sunday. Ryan has now kept four clean sheets across his previous five Eredivisie games. Alkmaar are fourth, two points behind Ajax in third.

In France, Denis Genreau started and played 65 minutes for Toulouse FC in a 0-0 draw with Nice on Sunday. Genreau led his team in tackles with four and boasted a 75% passing accuracy rating. He also averages one tackle every 17 minutes, the second most of any player in Ligue 1 this season (minimum 10 tackles). Toulouse are 13th in the league with two games remaining.

In Czechia, Awer Mabil came off the bench in the 77th minute for Sparta Prague in a 2-1 win over Bohemians 1905 in the Czech First League championship rounds. Sparta are the only team in the championship round to win all three fixtures so far. 

In Italy's Serie B, Fran Karacic played a full game for Brescia Calcio in a 2-2 draw with Palermo on Saturday.

In the MLS, Brad Smith came off the bench in the 74th minute as Houston Dynamo drew 1-1 with FC Dallas on Sunday. 

Over to Asia, where Harrison Delbridge played a full game for Incheon United on Saturday in a 1-1 draw with Gwangju.

Thomas Deng came off the bench in the 81st minute for Albirex Niigata in a 2-0 loss to Sagan Tosu on Saturday in the J1 League. 

Elsewhere in the J1League, Mitch Langerak was in goal for Nagoya Grampus in a 2-1 win over Sanfrecce on Saturday. Nagoya are third in the league, four points off the top.

In the J2 League, where Mitch Duke played 83 minutes on Sunday as Machida Zelvia beat Shimizu S-Pulse 2-1. They are now seven points clear at the top of the league. 

In the Israeli Premier League play-offs, Nikita Rukavytsya came off the bench in the 65th minute for Maccabi Haifa on Sunday in a 5-0 win over Hapoel Jerusalem Netanya FC.

Starting in the English Premier League, Cameron Peupion was an unused substitute in Brighton's 3-1 win over Southampton on Sunday.

In the German 3. Liga, John Iredale came off the bench in the 78th minute and scored the equaliser in SV Wehen Wiesbaden's 1-1 draw with SV Elversberg on Saturday.  

In the German Regionalliga, Alou Kuol came off the bench in the 82nd minute as VfB Stuttgart II lost 2-0 to TSV Steinbach on Saturday.

In the Eerste Divisie, Dylan Ryan came off the bench in the 86th minute for FC Den Bosch on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to De Graafschap while Josh Rawlins played a full game at centre-back in Jong FC Utrecht's 1-1 draw with VVV at the same time.
