Giannou’s goalscoring psychology set to benefit Caltex Socceroos

Apostolos Giannou arrives in the Caltex Socceroos camp in goalscoring form as he looks to rise to coach Graham Arnold’s call for ruthlessness in his strike force.

And there’s a spring in the step of the 29-year-old, who found the net in his last appearance for club side AEK Larnaca in the Cypriot First Division on Friday.

With fellow attackers Adam Taggart and Jamie Maclaren also in excellent form in front of goal, all of Australia’s strikers will be full of confidence heading into Thursday night’s clash against Nepal in Canberra.

“It’s always good to score, obviously as a striker you always want to have touch with the net,” Giannou told socceroos.com.au.

“It’s what we’ve tried to work on as the Socceroos also; getting used to scoring and winning games as easily as possible by scoring a lot of goals.

“It’s a big plus to come in with this kind of psychology, this confidence and hopefully on Thursday we can do the same thing.”

Giannou was the first player to arrive to Caltex Socceroos camp in Canberra on Monday morning ahead of Thursday’s clash at GIO Stadium.

“It’s a big plus for me to get in quick and try and sort out my body and the time change,” Giannou admitted.

“I haven’t been back (to Australia) in a while and when I landed here I realised how much I miss actually being home.”

After Thursday’s match, Arnold’s squad will then hit the road for next week’s encounter with Chinese Taipei.
