Caltex Socceroos boss votes for Ronaldo in FIFA award

Caltex Socceroo coach Ange Postecoglou and skipper Mile Jedinak both cast their votes for Cristiano Ronaldo, the winner of FIFA’s “The Best” award this week.

The Real Madrid and Portuguese superstar took out the prestigious honour for the fourth time, ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi and  France attacker Antoine Griezmann.

The winner is voted for by captains and managers from all of FIFA’s international managers who vote for their top three in a 5-3-1 points voting system.

So who else did Postecoglou and Jedinak vote for?

The Caltex Socceroos boss gave Ronaldo his maximum points (five), but left Barcelona striker Messi out, opting for Griezmann (three points) and Chile’s Alexis Sanchez (one).

Aston Villa midfielder Jedinak believed Messi was the world’s best in 2016, handing him his five points, while giving Ronaldo three and Wales talisman Gareth Bale one.

In a year where he helped Real Madrid to the UEFA Champions League title and Portugal to Euro 2016 glory, Ronaldo was a clear winner with 34.54% of the overall vote.

Messi came in second with 26.42%, while Griezmann was well back in third with 7.53% of the votes.
