Riley McGree

Riley McGree is a creative and versatile midfielder who has become an established member of the CommBank Socceroos and built a successful career in English football.

The Gawler-born midfielder first made his name in the A-League Men with Adelaide United, Newcastle Jets and Melbourne City. One of his most memorable moments came with an incredible scorpion-kick goal for Newcastle in 2018, while a breakout 2019/20 campaign with Adelaide saw him score 10 goals across all competitions.

After a spell with Birmingham City, McGree joined Middlesbrough in 2022 and established himself as a regular in the EFL Championship, operating across a number of midfield and attacking roles.

McGree made his CommBank Socceroos debut in 2021 and scored his first international goal against Vietnam during qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2022™. He went on to start all four of Australia’s matches at the tournament in Qatar, providing the assist for Mathew Leckie’s memorable winner against Denmark as the Socceroos reached the Round of 16.

An injury ruled McGree out of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, but he has remained an important part of Australia’s midfield group and continued his career with Middlesbrough.
