It was a night of heartbreak, and also so many positives, for the Socceroos after they fell 2-1 to France in an agonising opening game of the FIFA World Cup™.
After the Video Assistant Referee awarded France a second half penalty, it took Australia just three minutes to equalise from a penalty of their own in a game when the Socceroos acquitted themselves admirably.
But it wasn’t to be, with Paul Pogba’s deflected lob looping over Maty Ryan and over the line via the underside of the crossbar with just 10 minutes remaining.
