Aussies Abroad: Jeggo stars in Vienna derby, Ryan edged by Chelsea in Premier League

A clean sheet, a title race and a derby goal headlined an action-packed night for our overseas Australians.

In Austria, James Jeggo opened his account for the season in Austria Wien’s 6-1 hammering of Rapid Wien in the Vienna derby.

With the score locked at 1-1, Jeggo popped up in the 35th minute to give his side the lead effectively opening to floodgates to a derby romp.

In England Mathew Ryan played 90 minutes for Brighton and Hove Albion as the Seagulls went down 2-1 to Chelsea in this morning’s Premier League clash.

The Caltex Socceroos gloveman was beaten by goals from Eden Hazard and Pedro, and Brighton came close to equalising through Lewis Dunk after Solly March pulled a goal back in the second half.

Jamie Maclaren was an unused substitute as Hibernian shocked Celtic 2-0 at Easter Road to keep the champions off the Scottish Premiership top spot.

Martin Boyle and Mark Milligan were absent for Neil Lennon’s side, while Tom Rogic missed out for Celtic.

Awer Mabil played 77 minutes for Midtjylland in the Danish club’s 3-1 win over Horsens. That result ensures Mabil, who has scored five goals and nine assists, side remain three points behind Danish Superligaen leaders Kobenhavn.

Danny Vukovic kept his seventh clean sheet of the season as Genk beat Oostende 2-0 in the Belgian Pro League. Vukovic’s side are now seven points ahead of second-placed Club Brugge.

Tomi Juric was on the bench for FC Luzern’s 2-1 victory over St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League.
