Trent Sainsbury signs for Al-Wakrah SC

Trent Sainsbury has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him play his club football in Qatar.

The Socceroos defender has officially joined Al-Wakrah SC, with their season set to kick off on Wednesday night (12:35am AEST, Thursday).

The club, which finished third last season, played their home games at Al Janoub Stadium, where the Socceroos played their June friendly against Jordan.

Sainsbury's move comes off the back of a strong season with KV Kortrijk in Belgium, where he regularly wore the captain's armband and popped up with three goals, including a memorable derby brace.

Having made 60 international appearances and captained his country on four occassions, Sainsbury will be looking to make a strong start to the season before Qatar welcomes the world for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November.
