Subway Australian U-23 squad named for Doha International Cup

Subway Australian U-23s Head Coach, Tony Vidmar has selected a 23-player squad for the Doha International U-23 Cup to be held during the March FIFA Men’s International Window.

The tournament features U-23 sides from Croatia, Egypt, Qatar, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As part of their participation in the Doha International U-23 Cup, Australia will face Croatia (19 March), UAE (22 March) and Qatar (25 March).

The squad will assemble in Qatar from 16 March, in what will be their first activity of 2025 as they begin working towards their AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers in September.

Vidmar has almost exclusively selected players from the Isuzu UTE A-League Men competition, with the exception of Mohamed Toure (Randers FC) who has been in strong form in the Danish top-flight.

The experienced trio of Patrick Beach (Melbourne City FC), Adrian Segecic (Sydney FC) and Jordi Valadon (Melbourne Victory FC) all return. Valadon will be joined by club teammates Kasey Bos, Josh Rawlins and Jing Reec.

The Western Sydney Wanderers FC are also well represented in the squad, with Aydan Hammond, Anthony Pantazopoulos, Oscar Priestman and Aidan Simmons all named.

Kealey Adamson (Macarthur FC), Ethan Alagich (Adelaide United FC), Rhys Bozinovski (Western United FC) and Clayton Taylor (Newcastle Jets FC) have had their consistency at club level rewarded with selection.

Subway Australian U-23s Head Coach, Tony Vidmar said he was looking forward to facing strong opposition at the beginning of a new cycle.

“This is a great tournament to be a part of and will provide an excellent experience for the group as we work towards our Asian Cup Qualifiers in September,” Vidmar said.

“We’ve brought together a squad who are getting plenty of minutes at their respective clubs and are performing well. We feel the opposition and the conditions they’ll face in Doha offer a different test for them within the national team pathway.

“We want to continue developing these players individually and building depth across the age group, our involvement in this tournament is another important part of that.

“I’m excited by the quality both within this group and on our extended monitoring list and am looking forward to connecting with the players and staff to lay the foundations for the year ahead,” Vidmar concluded.
