Socceroos on the scoresheet: Dougall and Tilio net in key victories

Overnight, Marco Tilio netted a brace for Melbourne City as they picked up their first-ever AFC Champions League win over United City while Kenny Dougall scored a header in a 6-1 win for Blackpool against Birmingham City.

After grabbing an assist in their opening match against BG Pathum United on the weekend, Marco Tilio put together another impressive performance for City as his two goals against United City allowed the Australian side to move to equal first in Group G.

The Socceroo midfielder came close to opening his account in the 26th minute after dancing through the United defence before his strike was guided onto the post of Matt Silva's goal.

However, It took until the second-half for the 20-year-old to net his first AFC Champions League goal as his two deft touches inside the box before launching his strike past Silva allowed City to take a 2-0 lead right before the 60th minute.

Next, fellow Socceroo striker Jamie Maclaren was close to netting in the 67th minute as his attempted chip over Silva rose just over the bar.

Again, it was two-touch Tilio as the midfielder guided his strike into the right corner to give City the third and final goal of the evening at Leo Stadium.

Elsewhere across the globe, Kenny Dougall scored in an extremely crucial 6-1 victory over Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road.

Before netting his first goal this season in the Championship for the Seasiders, the midfielder laid on an assist he helped CJ Hamilton give Blackpool a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes.

On the 40th minute, Charlie Kirk played a ball into the front post and this allowed the 28-year-old Queenslander to net his first goal for Blackpool since scoring a double at Wembley in the EFL League One Play-Off Final.

Also in England, Riley McGree put in a solid shift for Middlesbrough as The Boro were defeated by Huddersfield 2-0 at home.

The 23-year-old did not misplace a single pass all match as he completed 40 passes across the 90 minutes the Australian played at Riverside Stadium.

The South Australian came close to grabbing himself at a goal at home as his shot in the second-half rattled the cross-bar of Lee Nicholls's goal.

McGree and Middlesbrough are next in action against Swansea this Sunday at 12:00AM AEST, while Kenny Dougall's Blackpool faces off against Luton Town on Saturday evening.

Jamie Maclaren and Marco Tilio's Melbourne City play their next game of AFC Asian Champions League game against Jeonnam Dragons this Thursday and once again face the Korean side on Sunday evening.
