Socceroos defender Gersbach signs with Eredivisie club

Socceroos defender Alex Gersbach has made the switch from Norway to the Netherlands, joining Dutch club NAC Breda.

The 21-year-old left-back has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Breda from Norwegian giants Rosenborg.

Gersbach played 61 games for Rosenborg, including in the UEFA Europa League, while he also had a short stint on loan at French club RC Lens.

Ahead of his new adventure in Holland, Gersbach said he is delighted to have the deal done.

"It took a while until it could be made final, but I'm glad it's finished now,” he told the club’s official website.

“NAC seems to me a very lively club where you experience a lot. I have heard many good stories about the club.

“For me it is now time to close the Asian Cup and then travel to Breda as quickly as possible to get to know everyone. "

Gersbach is currently in the UAE with the Socceroos, who are getting ready to play their Quarter Final clash at the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019™ against the host nation.

The youngster started his career at the Australian Institute of Sport, before joining Hyundai A-League club Sydney FC.

He made 31 appearances for the Sky Blues before he was snapped up by Rosenborg in 2016.

Gersbach was part of three Championship-winning squads at Rosenborg, while the club also won the Norwegian Cup in 2016 and 2018.
