Ramy Najjarine ready to shine ahead of Marbella matches

Ramy Najjarine provided a positive update about his progress in Australia’s U23 camp ahead of their first friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday night (AEST).

Najjarine was one of a handful of Australian-based players selected for the upcoming international U23 friendlies in Marbella, Spain.

These international friendlies will be the perfect time for the Newcastle Jets winger to make his case to be called up for the Olyroos squad which will take part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Men's Football Tournament come July.

Despite being in the minority with most of the players in camp plying their trade abroad, he is looking forward to seeing how the squad gels in the matches ahead.

“It’s good to get into camp now. This camp is made up of majority overseas-based boys. There are some fresh faces here on board and it’s good to see what they can do for the team,” Najjarine said.

Najjarine and his teammates they will give a strong account of themselves if they are to maintain the same approach that they have mastered in the past.

“Our key focus is to be brave in the way we play. This national team has a certain style and we should get great success sticking to that here,” he said.

There will understandably be fierce competition for a ticket to Tokyo but the Jets winger knows that these friendlies will provide the perfect platform for him and his teammates to shine.

The Marbella friendlies will also provide a perfect gauge for the Australian coaching staff, given that three out of the four sides that they will be coming up against have also qualified for the Olympic Games.

“I think every player here in camp wants to show their worth and there’s no better way to do that, than against some quality opponents that will be participating in the Olympics.”

Wednesday will be the first chance to see Najjarine and the Australian U23 side in action as they take on the Republic of Ireland’s U21 side at 9pm (AEST).
