Mooy’s Huddersfield too good for Brighton in battle of the Caltex Socceroos

Aaron Mooy claimed bragging rights in the battle of the Caltex Socceroos as his Huddersfield Town outfit beat Mat Ryan’s Brighton in the Premier League overnight.

Both Aussies played the full 90 minutes with Mooy’s Town proving too strong as they cruised to a 2-0 win at John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield’s Benin international striker Steve Mounie scored both goals in the first half, ending a run of four straight defeats for the Terriers.

The first came from a corner after just 12 minutes, before Mooy was involved in the second just before the break.

The Caltex Socceroo playmaker wriggled free of a defender on the left and stood up a pass to the far post where Mathias Jorgensen nodded back across goal for Mounie to score.

Mat Ryan could do nothing to prevent Brighton from falling to defeat against Huddersfield.

The result has seen Huddersfield leapfrog Brighton in to 11th spot on the ladder on 18 points, one point and two places above Ryan’s men.

Mooy’s Terriers are back in action on Wednesday morning (AEDT) when they host Chelsea, while Brighton travels to Wembley to play Tottenham 24 hours later.
