Millwall defender wins clash of the Caltex Socceroos

James Meredith came out on top in the battle of the Caltex Socceroos as Millwall defeated Massimo Luongo’s QPR in the English Championship on Saturday morning.

In a pulsating London derby, Meredith’s Millwall prevailed 1-0 at The Den thanks to Steve Morison’s 55th minute winner.

Both Aussies got through the full 90 minutes for their respective sides in a match where Millwall’s win saw them leapfrog QPR on the Championship ladder.

Morison almost opened the scoring on 28 minutes only to slip as he was about to strike but made amends 10 minutes into the second half as he powered home Jed Wallace’s cross.

Luongo went close to helping QPR equalise when his shot was spilt by the keeper, only for him to swoop on the loose ball just before Matt Smith was sent to pounce.

But Millwall held on to move into 15th spot on the ladder on 30 points, three ahead of QPR who are 18th.

Meredith and the Lions are next in action against Norwich early in the New Year, while Luongo’s QPR are at home to promotion-chasing Cardiff City.
