McGree to miss Socceroos' clash with Oman

Football Australia can advise that a positive COVID-19 result in the Socceroos’ camp in Muscat, Oman has been received.

Creative midfielder Riley McGree will miss tonight’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifier against Oman at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex after he returned a positive test on matchday -1.

McGree was immediately isolated from the Socceroos’ delegation after learning of the positive result.

Football Australia will provide support to McGree throughout his isolation period in Oman. As well as caring for his wellbeing, Football Australia is focused on ensuring that McGree can return to his club in England as soon as he is cleared to do so.

Football Australia continues to implement stringent COVID-19 protocols within its national teams. While this positive result is unfortunate and inopportune, it is the first to occur within the Socceroos’ set-up whilst the team has been playing extensively abroad from June 2021 to January 2022.
