Football Federation Australia (FFA) can confirm that attacker Jamie Maclaren has joined the Caltex Socceroos’ pre-2018 FIFA World Cup™ training camp in Antalya, Turkey.
Maclaren – who was selected in van Marwijk’s 32-player preliminary squad ahead of the tournament – joined the Caltex Socceroos on Sunday evening (local time).
Australia, as well as the 31 other nations competing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, must name its final 23 player squad on or before June 4.
This week Maclaren will be given the opportunity to show his ability to van Marwijk and his staff as the Caltex Socceroos continue to train in Antalya, and play an international friendly match against Czech Republic in St. Polten, Austria.
“Tomi Juric has had a knee issue over the last three weeks which is being monitored by our medical team,” said van Marwijk.
“We hope that Tomi will be able to train and play this week, but his recovery might also take longer. That is why we have decided to bring in Jamie Maclaren now so that he also has a fair chance to display his qualities before the final 23 player squad must be announced.”
