Hrustic undergoes successful ankle surgery

Subway Socceroos and Hellas Verona midfielder Ajdin Hrustic has undergone successful ankle surgery in London overnight, the club has announced.

A statement on Hellas Verona's official website read: "Ajdin Hrustic underwent ligament reconstruction of his left ankle this morning.

"The surgery, performed in London by Professor James Calder, was perfectly successful."

Hrustic sustained the injury against Milan in Serie A in mid-October, throwing his FIFA World Cup hopes into uncertainty.

However, the 26-year-old recovered enough in time to be named in the 26-man squad and feature as a substitute in three matches for Australia against Tunisia, Denmark and Argentina at the major tournament.

The creative midfielder returned as a late substitute for Hellas against Torino to begin the new year but remained troubled by the lingering issue with surgery deemed the best cause of action.
