Hammond, Caroutas & Scarcella added to Australia U23s for Indonesia fixtures

Football Australia today advised of three additions to Australia’s squad for its forthcoming AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification matches against Indonesia in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Aydan Hammond, Thymos Caroutas, and Matthew Scarcella have been added to Australia’s squad for the forthcoming qualification matches, which will be held this evening and on Friday. Both matches will kick-off at 11pm AEDT.

Unfortunately, attacker Noah Botic has been ruled out of the forthcoming matches against Indonesia due to a minor injury. Botic is participating in some training activities with the team in Tajikistan, however he will not be risked throughout the upcoming qualifiers.

Originally Australia had been scheduled to play Indonesia, as well as China PR and Brunei Darussalam in Group G of Asian qualifying, however after the latter two nations withdrew from qualifying the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) reconfigured the Group B match schedule.

Australia will now need to defeat Indonesia in the two-match series to advance to the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022, which will be played in Uzbekistan between June 1 and 19 next year.

While Football Australia is continuing to explore avenues to share a live stream of the match this evening, regular match updates will be available via the official Socceroos social media channels.
