Garang Kuol signs with Dutch Eredivisie club on loan

Garang Kuol has completed a season-long loan move to Dutch Eredivisie outfit FC Volendam for the 2023/24 campaign.

The Newcastle United attacker will go out on loan for the second time since his arrival at the Magpies in January 2023, after spending the first half of 2023 in Scotland with Heart of Midlothian.

The 18-year-old became the Subway Socceroos' youngest ever player to feature at the FIFA World Cup, making a substitute appearance against eventual finalists France.

The highly rated forward, who scored his maiden Socceroos goal in March against Ecuador, was also the youngest player to feature in the knockout stages of the competition since the late Pelé in 1958 after appearing off the bench against subsequent champions Argentina in the Round of 16.

Kuol managed nine appearances and one goal while at Hearts and will be hoping for more consistent playing time under Volendam boss Matthias Kohler.

The Dutch club finished 14th last season upon its return to the top flight for the first time since the 2008/09 iteration.

Prior to his move to Newcastle he scored seven goals in 22 games for the Central Coast Mariners.

Volendam open its new season at home to Vitesse on Saturday, 12 August at 4am (AEST).
