Experienced defender Bailey Wright has been called into to the Socceroos’ squad for Australia’s forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ – AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar (Final Round) fixtures against Oman and Japan.
Sunderland AFC defender Wright will replace Red Star Belgrade’s Milos Degenek, who has had to withdraw from the window after returning a positive COVID-19 test.
Degenek is asymptomatic, however after returning a positive test in his pre-departure screening, he has been ruled out of the upcoming FIFA international window.
Fifteen (15) of Australia’s 25-player squad for the Socceroos’ third and fourth AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar (Final Round) matches have now arrived in Doha, with the remaining ten (10) squad members set to arrive in Qatar today.
Australia’s fixtures against Oman and Japan will be broadcast exclusively live and free in Australia on 10. Coverage of Australia’s first match in October will commence on 10 and 10 Play from 5am AEDT on Friday, 8 October 2021.
