Caltex Socceroos defender Behich heading back to Turkey

Caltex Socceroos defender Aziz Behich has made a move back to Turkey, joining İstanbul Başakşehir FK on a three-year deal.

After being unable to break into Mark van Bommel’s PSV side in the Eredivisie, the 28-year-old left-back has decided to join the Istanbul-based outfit which is second in the Turkish Super Lig.

“I am proud to be a part of the Istanbul Başakşehir family for the next 3 years,” Behich said.

“The future is exciting and I am ready to give everything to the club.”

Behich made just six appearances in all competitions for PSV in 2018/19 after joining the club at the start of the campaign alongside fellow Aussie Trent Sainsbury.

This is not Behich’s first time playing in Turkey having spent four full seasons playing for Bursaspor.

He joined Bursaspor in 2014 and went on to make 121 appearances for the club in the Super Lig.

Behich’s best season in Turkey came in 2017/18, where he chipped in with an impressive five goals.

The Aussie defender – who was named in Graham Arnold’s 23-man squad for next month’s friendly for Korea Republic – will likely be playing UEFA Champions League football with his new club.
