Brad Smith signs for Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer

Brad Smith has joined Major League Soccer outfit Seattle Sounders after his contract with Bournemouth ended at the conclusion of the 2019/20 season.

Socceroos defender Brad Smith has linked up once again with Seattle Sounders on a permanent deal after previously spending the 2018/19 season on loan at the club from Bournemouth.

Smith wrote his name into the history books during his previous stint with the Sounders after he became the first Aussie to lift the MLS trophy in 2019.

Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer, Garth Lagerwey, was pleased by the fact that they were able to lure a player of such high calibre to the club.

“We are very excited to bring in Brad, a proven winner who adds even more speed and athleticism to our squad,” Lagerwey said.

“With Brad being out of contract, this was a uniquely good deal for us, allowing the club to add a high impact player during this unorthodox season.”

Sounders FC Head Coach, Brian Schmetzer, praised Smith’s mentality and the benefits he can lend to the club both on and off the pitch.

“Brad was a very good player for Sounders FC and helped us win a championship at home in 2019,” Schmetzer said.

“He is a good guy to have in the locker room and already has established relationships with players on our team. I’m looking forward to bringing him back into the squad.”

The 26-year-old will have to wait before he can make his second debut for the club with the defender currently undergoing mandatory quarantine before he can rejoin the side.
