Australia U-23 trio join the A-League

Australia U-23 trio Ben Folami, Daniel Bouman and Joshua Laws have been picked up by A-League sides ahead of the 2020/21 Season.

Folami joins Melbourne Victory on a season-long loan from Ipswich Town.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Sydney and played for the Sutherland Sharks before moving to England, has been at Ipswich since 2015.

Folami has represented Australia at U-19 and U-23 level, and was part of the squad that qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics earlier this year.

The forward is a solid addition to the Victory squad who have lost Ola Toivonen and Andrew Nabbout this year.

Meanwhile, Bouman joins Central Coast Mariners after spending several seasons in the Netherlands.

The Dutch-born attacking midfielder spent his junior years playing club football in Sydney, but moved back to the Netherlands with family in 2014 and joined the Groningen youth setup in that same year.

He made 80 appearances for Groningen's youth sides, but most recently was playing for SC Cambuur, and was also in the U-23 squad that sealed a spot at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Laws, who has captained the U-23 side, will play for Wellington Phoenix in the upcoming season.

The Scotland-born, Sydney-raised 22-year-old joins the Phoenix after being based in Germany since 2013, where he spent six years in Fortuna Dusseldorf’s youth development system – including 23 appearances in Fortuna’s second team in the Regionalliga.

The 2020/21 A-League Season begins on December 27.
