Aussies Abroad Wrap: Boyle returns to bag late derby equaliser, Taggart & Duke score in Japan

Martin Boyle came off the bench to net an injury-time equaliser in his Hibernian return while Mitch Duke and Adam Taggart both scored a goal in Japan and an Olyroo featured on the bench in a first-round Premier League shock.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Martin Boyle scored a dramatic last-gasp leveller as he marked his Hibernian return with an injury-time strike to earn his side a 1-1 draw in the Edinburgh derby against Heart of Midlothian on Sunday.

The Socceroos winger only received international clearance at the last minute following his return from Al Faisaly. And he popped up with a goal deep into the five minutes of injury time to reintroduce himself to the Hibs fans and stop the Jambos from taking all three points.

Kye Rowles also started the match and played 90 minutes for Hearts while Nathaniel Atkinson came on in the 63rd minute and Lewis Miller was an unused substitute for Hibs. 

Elsewhere in the Scottish Premiership, Aaron Mooy and Celtic left it late to secure a 3-1 victory over Ross County in Round Two of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday. Mooy came off the bench in the 85th minute to close out the win in Dingwall. 

In England, Riley McGree played 90 minutes as Middlesbrough almost pulled off a great escape act at QPR but were edged out 3-2 at Loftus Road on Saturday. 


Elsewhere in the Championship, Kenny Dougall came on at half time as Blackpool lost 2-0 to Stoke City while Bailey Wright was an unused substitute in Sunderland's 3-2 win over Bristol City on Saturday. 

In Olyroos Abroad news, Tyrese Francois was also an unused substitute as Fulham secured a 2-2 draw with Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League on Saturday. 

Goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was also an unused substitute in Huddersfield's 2-1 loss to Birmingham City on Saturday in the Championship. 

In League One,  Accrington Stanley continued their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town on Sunday. Jay Rich-Baghuelou started the match but was forced off with an injury in the 20th minute after stopping a Shrews breakaway. 

In League Two, Lachlan Brook started on the right-wing and played 68 minutes as Crewe Alexandra also continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 win over Harrogate Town on Saturday. 

Asia

Over to the J1 League, where Adam Taggart scored for the second game in a row as Cerezo Osaka recorded a 3-0 victory over Vissel Kobe on Saturday. The Socceroos striker opened the scoring in the 22nd minute by captalising on a mistake from the Vissel goalkeeper. The 29-year-old now has six goals in all competitions this season. 

Elsewhere in Japan, Mitch Duke also found the back of the net in Fagiano Okayama's 3-1 win over Iwate Grulla Morioka in the J2 League on Saturday. Duke steamed in at the near post to neatly finish Tiago Alves' low driven cross and bag his fifth goal of the season. 

The United States

In Major League Soccer, Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek and his Columbus Crew side secured a big win over second placed New York City on Sunday. Degenek played 90 minutes at centre-back as his side came from behind to win 3-2 and move into fifth on the Eastern Conference table. 

Europe

In France, Denis Genreau came off the bench in the 69th minute as Toulouse FC kicked off their Ligue 1 return with a 1-1 draw against OGC Nice on Sunday. 

In Germany, Jackson Irvine wore the captain's armband and played 90 minutes in St. Pauli's 2-1 loss to FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday.  Connor Metcalfe was an unused substitute. 

On a high from a big win over Club Brugge in the previous matchday, Jason Davidson's K.A.S Eupen faced off against K.R.C. Genk on Sunday. Unfortunately, Eupen could not continue their form as they went down 4-2. Davidson started the match and played 78 minutes in a left wing-back role. 

In Italy, Fran Karačić and Brescia Calcio kicked off their Coppa Italia campaign with a 4-1 win over Pisa S.C. on Sunday. Karačić started the match at right-back and played 64 minutes. 

Meanwhile, in Denmark, Joel King put in a full shift for Odense Boldklub at home to AGF Aarhus as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat after conceding a late penalty. 

Over in Spain, Awer Mabil wrapped up his pre-season with Cádiz CF with a start and 72 minutes in a 1-0 loss against Sevilla FC in the Antonio Puerta Trophy on Sunday.  

In Olyroos abroad news, Josh Rawlins kicked off the Eerste Divisie season with the FC Utrecht U23s on Sunday by starting and playing 60 minutes in a 3-0 loss to TOP Oss.
