Aussies Abroad Wrap: Irvine & Duke score, Karačić assists in Serie B

It was another bumper weekend of Aussies abroad action as Jackson Irvine scored another goal in Germany, Mitch Duke scored his seventh goal of the season in the J2 League while Fran Karačić assisted in Serie B.

Socceroos and Olyroos Abroad

Europe

Starting in Germany, where Jackson Irvine has scored his third goal of the 2. Bundesliga season to help St. Pauli earn a point with a 1-1 draw against SV Sandhausen on Sunday. 

Irvine headed a cross from Leart Paqarada into the top right corner to make it 1-0 in the 38th minute but St. Pauli could not hold on for all three points. 

Irvine captained the side and played the entire 90 while Connor Metcalfe came off the bench in the 79th minute. 

In Serie B, Fran Karačić came off the bench at half time to register an assist as Brescia Calcio won 3-1 against Modena on Saturday to secure back-to-back wins in the league. 

Karacic whipped in a superb cross to Stefano Moreo who headered home in the 61st minute. 

 

Elsewhere in Italy, Ajdin Hrustic made his Serie A debut for Hellas Verona after coming off the bench in the 70th minute as his side lost 2-0 to Lazio on Monday.

In Denmark, Mat Ryan lined up for FC Copenhagen against  Joel King's Odense Boldklub on Sunday. Copenhagen took the lead in the 22nd minute through an own goal but two defensive errors allowed Odense to secure a 2-1 win. 

Ryan could do little about the two goals while King was an unused substitute. 

In France, Denis Genreau came off the bench in the 79th minute as Toulouse bounced back from two consecutive defeats with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Reims on Sunday in Ligue 1.

In Belgium, James Jeggo both Jason Davidson started as K.A.S. Eupen lost 1-0 against K.V. Oostende on Sunday. Jeggo played 63 minutes while Davidson played 84 minutes. 


In Spain, Awer Mabil came off the bench in the 72 minute as Cádiz CF lost 4-0 against Barcelona on Sunday.

In Olyroos abroad news, Tyrese Francois made his starting debut for HNK Gorica in a 2-1 loss against GNK Dinamo Zagreb on Sunday in the Croatian Football League. 


Alou Kuol also started and played 69 for VfB Stuttgart II as they beat FSV Frankfurt 1899 1-0 on Saturday while Josh Rawlins played 90 minutes for Jong FC Utrecht in the Eerste Divisie on Saturday as Utrecht beat Helmond Sport 2-0. 

Asia 

Starting in Japan, where Mitch Duke started and scored the winner in Fagiano Okayama's 2-1 victory over Montedio Yamagata on Saturday in the J2 League. 

The 76th-minute strike takes Duke's tally to seven goals in 30 matches as Fagiano sit in third position, five points off a guaranteed promotion place. 


In the J1 League, Adam Taggart started and played 88 minutes as Cerezo Osaka secured a last-gasp winner against Sagan Tosu on Saturday. The 2-1 victory leaves Cerezo in fifth position on the ladder as they look to close the six-point gap between Sanfrecce Hiroshima and an AFC Champions League Qualifying position. 

The United States

Finishing with Major League Soccer, where Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek played another 90 minutes as Columbus Crew drew 2-2 against CF Montréal on Saturday.

  • In Austria, James Holland played 90 minutes as FK Austria Wien won 3-0 against Hartberg on Sunday.
  • In France's Ligue 2, Alex Gersbach played another 90 minutes for Grenoble Foot 38 in a 2-1 loss against Paris FC on Sunday.
  • Elsewhere in France, Mohamed Touré started for Stade de Reims 2 in a 3-0 loss against FCSR Haguenau on Sunday.
  • In Serie B, Alessandro Circati started and played 76 minutes as Parma lost 3-2 to Ternana.
  • In Croatian Football League, Anthony Kalik came off the bench at half time as Hajduk Split drew 1-1 with HNK Šibenik on Saturday.
  • In Super League Greece, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos came off the bench in the 68th minute as PAS Giannina won 2-1 against Levadiakos on Sunday.
  • Bruce Kamau also came off the bench in the 69th minute as OFI Crete lost 2-1 against Panetolikos on Sunday.

  • In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya started and played 68 minutes as Maccabi Haifa won 3-1 against Sektzia Ness Ziona on Sunday.  
  • In the J1 League, Mitchell Langerak's Nagoya Grampus drew 0-0 with Vissell Kobe on Saturday. 
  • In K League 1, Alex Grant started and played 90 minutes as Pohang Steelers beat Ulsan 2-1 on Sunday.
  • Harrison Delbridge played another 90 minutes as Incheon United lost 3-2 to Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the K League on Sunday.
  • In K League 2, Ryan Edwards played 90 minutes as Busan IPark won 1-0 against Gyeongnam on Saturday.
