Aussies Abroad Wrap: Boyle, Taggart & Duke score

A number of Aussies Abroad will head to camp for two internationals against New Zealand full of confidence after netting and assisting in their respective leagues.

Socceroos and Olyroos Abroad

Asia

Starting in the J1 League, Adam Taggart played 88 minutes and opened the scoring for Cerezo Osaka in a 2-2 draw against Júbilo Iwata on Saturday.

Taggart received the ball on the edge of the area, shifted it onto his left and expertly curled it past the keeper to register his fifth J1 League goal of the season. 

Elsewhere in the J1 League, Mitch Langerak kept another clean sheet as Nagoya Grampus drew 0-0 with Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Saturday.

In the J2 League, Mitch Duke was also on the scoresheet as Fagiano Okayama beat V-Varen Nagasaki 3-0 on Saturday. Duke came off the bench at half time and popped up at the back post to head in a cross to seal the 3-0 win in the 75th minute. 


Elsewhere in the J2 League, Thomas Deng played another 90 minutes as Albirex Niigata won 2-0 against Mito HollyHock on Sunday.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Martin Boyle scored his third goal in six games to help Hibernian to a 3-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday.

Boyle converted a spot-kick to draw his team level after a penalty was awarded for a tangle in the box in the final minute of the first half.

The victory moves Hibs up to 11 points and fifth on the table, one place and one point above Aberdeen. Olyroo Lewis Miller was also an unused substitute. 


Elsewhere in Scotland, Aaron Mooy made his first Scottish Premiership start for Celtic as the Hoops suffered their first defeat of the season against Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain's St Mirren on Sunday.

Mooy played 45 minutes and was replaced at half time while Baccus played 90 minutes and Strain played 72 minutes. 

Strain also assisted St Mirren's opener with a wonderful looping cross towards the back post which was met by O'Hara and smashed into the net. 

Aziz Behich played another 90 minutes for Dundee United in a 2-1 loss Rangers on Sunday.

Cameron Devlin also started and played 64 minutes in Heart of Midlothian's 3-0 win over Motherwell on Monday while Nathaniel Atkinson came off the bench in the 73rd minute and assisted Hearts third with a square ball across the goal for a tap in.

In England, Riley McGree started and played 74 minutes as Middlesbrough drew 0-0 with Rotherham while  Kenny Dougall played 90 minutes as Blackpool lost 2-1 to Millwall Sunday in the Championship.

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic featured on the bench as Huddersfield beat Cardiff City 1-0 on Sunday. 

In League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was also an unused substitute as Salford City lost 1-0 to Tranmere on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Europe

Starting in Denmark, where Mat Ryan lined up for FC Copenhagen in a 2-1 loss against FC Midtjylland on Monday.

In Germany, Jackson Irvine played another 90 minutes as St Pauli lost 2-0 to SSV Jahn Regensburg on Sunday while Connor Metcalfe came off the bench at half time. 

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic started his first Serie A game and played 60 minutes as Hellas Verona lost 2-0 against Fiorentina on Sunday.

In Serie B, Fran Karačić played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win for Brescia Calcio against Benevento Calcio on Saturday as they made it three wins in a row. 

In France, Denis Genreau was an unused substitute as Toulouse lost 2-1 to LOSC Lille on Sunday. Toulouse sit in 12th on the Ligue 1 table, three points off the relegation zone. 

In Belgium, Jason Davidson started and played another 90 minutes as K.A.S. Eupen lost 2-1 against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Monday while James Jeggo came off the bench in the 72nd minute but Eupen could not find an equaliser. 

In Spain, Awer Mabil was an unused substitute as Cádiz CF got their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Real Valladolid CF on Saturday. 

In the Croatian Football League, Tyrese Francois started and played 75  minutes as HNK Gorica lost 1-0 against NK Osijek on Sunday.

In Olyroos abroad news, Alou Kuol started and played 62 minutes as VfB Stuttgart II lost 3-1 against VfR Aalenon on Sunday while Josh Rawlins played 90 minutes for Jong FC Utrecht in a 3-1 loss against NAC on Saturday. 

The United States

Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek played another 90 minutes for Columbus Crew in a 1-1 draw against Portland on Monday.

  • In Germany, John Iredale came off the bench in the 65th minute as SV Wehen Wiesbaden lost 1-0 SV Waldhof on Saturday in the 3. Liga.
  • In Croatia, Anthony Kalik came off the bench at half time as Hajduk Split drew with Istra 1961 2-2 in the Croatian Football League on Sunday while Deni Juric played 90 minutes as HNK Gorica lost 1-0 to NK Osijek on Sunday.
  • In Greece, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos came off the bench in the 65th minute as PAS Giannina lost 3-0 to Panathinaikos on Sunday.
  • Bruce Kamau was an unused substitute as OFI Crete FC drew 1-1 with PAOK on Monday.

United Kingdom

  • In Scotland, Phillip Cancar was an unused substitute as Livingston won 1-0 against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
