Aussies Abroad Wrap: Behich scores first Dundee United goal, Atkinson scores stunning volley

Aziz Behich scored his first Dundee United goal as they secured their first win of the Scottish Premiership season while Nathaniel Atkinson rescued Hearts a point with a stunning volley in another big weekend of Aussies Abroad action.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aziz Behich played 87 minutes and scored his first Dundee United goal in a 4-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday. 

Behich scored the opener in the 41st minute by reacting quickest to a parried shot and rifling the ball home.

The win was Dundee United's first of the Scottish Premiership season but it was not enough to lift them off the foot of the ladder. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, Nathaniel Atkinson played 90 minutes and scored a 90+4 minute equaliser for Heart of Midlothian to rescue a point against Kilmarnock.

With Kilmarnock defending deep in the dying minutes of the game, a ball was headed out to the edge of the area and Atkinson caught it sweetly on the volley to score his first of the season. 

Aaron Mooy also came off the bench in the 68th minute as Celtic stole a last-minute winner to beat Ryan McGowan's St Johnstone 2-1 on Saturday.

Martin Boyle started and played 90 minutes as Hibernian ground out a 1-0 win over Motherwell on Sunday while Keanu Baccus also played 90 minutes as St Mirren lost 4-0 against Rangers on Sunday.

In England, Riley McGree started and played 51 minutes as Middlesbrough lost 2-0 to Millwall on Sunday in the Championship.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Tom Rogic was an unused substitute as West Bromwich Albion drew 0-0 with Luton Town on Sunday while Bailey Wright was also an unused substitute in Sunderland's 2-1 loss to Swansea City on Sunday.

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic featured on the bench as Huddersfield won 2-0 against Hull City on Sunday.


In Germany, Jackson Irvine started but was replaced in the 10th minute by Connor Metcalfe after receiving a head wound in St Pauli's 2-1 loss against Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday. 

In the Danish Superliga, Mat Ryan was an unused substitute as FC Copenhagen drew 1-1 with FC Nordsjælland on Sunday.

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic started and played 71 minutes as Hellas Verona lost 2-1 against Salernitana on Sunday.

In France, Denis Genreau came off the bench in the 77th minute as Toulouse FC drew 1-1 with Lyon on Saturday. The draw leaves Toulouse in 11th position on the Ligue 1 table. 

In Belgium, Jason Davidson started and played 90 minutes while James Jeggo also started but came off at half time as K.A.S. Eupen lost 4-0 against Gent on Monday.

In Spain, Awer Mabil was an unused substitute as Cádiz CF drew 2-2 with Espanyol on Monday.

Tyrese Francois started and played 90 minutes as HNK Gorica lost 2-0 against Rijeka on Monday in the Croatian Football League.

Asia & The Middle East

Starting in the J2 League, where Mitch Duke started and played 90 minutes as Fagiano Okayama secured a 2-1 win over Ventforet Kofu on Sunday as they chase promotion to the J1 League.

In the J1 League, Mitch Langerak started as Nagoya Grampus drew 1-1 with Kyoto Sanga on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the J1 League, Adam Taggart started and played 73 minutes as Cerezo Osaka drew 0-0 with Kashiwa Reysol on Saturday. The draw leaves Cerezo in fourth as they chase a top-three finish and an AFC Champions League place. 

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge started and played 90 minutes as Incheon United drew 0-0 with Gangwon on Saturday in a play-off as the Final Rounds continue.

In Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury started and played 90 minutes as Al-Wakrah lost 5-3 against Umm Salal on Saturday. Al-Wakrah are second in the Qatar Stars League with one game remaining.

The United States

Over to Major League Soccer, where Subway Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek and his Columbus Crew suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Orlando City in their final match of the season on Monday. Degenek started and played 90 minutes but Columbus could not secure the point they needed to keep seventh position and secure their place in the finals series play-offs.

  • In France's Ligue 2, Alex Gersbach came off the bench in the 46th minute as Grenoble Foot 38 won 3-2 against Stade Laval on Sunday. 
  • In Croatia, Deni Juric started and played 84 minutes as HNK Gorica lost 2-0 against on Rijeka on Monday.

  • In the England Championship, Callum Elder started but came off at half time as Hull City lost 2-0 against Huddersfield on Saturday.
  • In League One, Jack Iredale came off the bench in the 46 minute as Bolton Wanderers lost 1-0 against Forest Green on Sunday.

  • In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya started but came off at half time as Maccabi Haifa lost 1-0 against Maccabi Bnei Raina on Sunday.
