Aussies Abroad: Strain and Atkinson star in Scotland, D'Agostino scores and assists

 A stunning Ryan Strain free-kick for St Mirren and a brilliant assist from Nathanial Atkinson both contributed to a classic Scottish Premiership tie, while Nick D'Agostino scored and assisted in Viking's win.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in Scotland, where a pair of Socceroos made contributions for their teams on Sunday as St Mirren and Heart of Midlothian played out a 2-2 draw in the Scottish Premiership.

Ryan Strain played 89 minutes and scored a brilliant free-kick while Keanu Baccus came off the bench in the 55th minute for St Mirren. It was Strain's ninth goal contribution of the season. Strain led his team in shots (3), passes (37), tackles (4), regaining possession (10) and carries (11) for a distance of 122 metres against Hearts.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Atkinson also came off the bench at half time and notched a quality assist and led his team in chances created with three. 

Cameron Devlin started and played 61 minutes alongside Kye Rowles, who played another full match for Hearts. Rowles made a team-high 75 passes and also won possession back nine times and boasted the second-most in clearances (5), carries (18) and distance from carries (174.3 metres).

Garang Kuol was an unused substitute. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, James Jeggo played a full game for Hibernian in a 0-0 draw with Aberdeen on Sunday while Subway Olyroo Lewis Miller was an unused substitute. 

Aziz Behich also played a full game for Dundee United in a 3-1 loss to Ross County on Sunday. The result leaves United floundering at the bottom after a critical relegation tussle as Ross County move up to 11th, two points clear of United with three games remaining.

In Norway, Nick D'Agostino played a full game, scored a goal and assisted alongside Gianni Stensness while Subway Olyroo Patrick Yazbek also started and played 59 minutes for Viking FK in a 2-1 win over Sandefjord on Sunday. 


In the English Championship play-off semi finals, Riley McGree played a full game for Middlesbrough against Coventry in a 0-0 draw on Sunday. McGree manufactured three scoring opportunities and six passes into the box - both team highs and was equal first in carries (20), gaining 206.4 metres - more than any other Middlesbrough player.

Boro now prepare for the second leg on Thursday at 5am (AEST).

In the Netherlands, Maty Ryan was in goal as AZ Alkmaar returned to Eredivise action with a 5-1 win over FC Emmem on Monday. 

In Germany, Jackson Irvine played a full game while Connor Metcalfe came off the bench in the 77th minute as St Pauli drew 0-0 with Fortuna Düsseldorf on Sunday. The draw leaves St Pauli in fourth with two games remaining. 

In France, Denis Genreau started and played 68 minutes for Toulouse FC in a 0-0 draw with Nantes on Sunday.

In Czechia, Awer Mabil came on in the 79th minute as Sparta Prague beat Slavia Praha 3-2 on Sunday in the Czech First League championship rounds. 

In Serie B, Fran Karacic played a full game for Brescia Calcio in 1-1 draw with Pisa on Saturday as they look to avoid relegation. Brescia are three points above the relegation zone with one game remaining.

In the MLS,  Brad Smith came off the bench in the 60th minute for Houston Dynamo in a 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders on Sunday.

Over to Asia, where Mitch Langerak was in goal again as Nagoya Grampus lost 2-0 to Kashima Antlers on Sunday in the J1 League. The loss leaves Nagoya in third position after 13 matchdays. 

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge played a full game for Incheon Unitedon Sunday in a 0-0 draw with Jeonbuk.

In the J2 League, Mitch Duke started again and played 82 minutes for Machida Zelvia on Saturday in a 1-0 win over Tokyo Verdy. Duke's side are now four points clear at the top of the table. 

Olyroos and Subway Young Socceroos

Fresh from winning the Premier League 2 player of the month award, Cameron Peupion was an unused substitute in Brighton's 3-0 Premier League win over Arsenal on Monday.

In the Eerste Divisie, where Josh Rawlins played a full game at centre back as Jong FC Utrecht lost 3-0 to Willem II on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Netherlands, Dylan Ryan was an unused substitute in FC Den Bosch's 2-2 draw with Almere on Saturday. 

In the German Regionalliga West, Alou Kuol came off the bench in the 90th minute be involved as VfB Stuttgart II lost 3-2 to SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball on Sunday.

In the German 3. Liga, John Iredale came on in the 78th minute for SV Wehen Wiesbaden in a 2-1 win over Verl on Saturday.
