Aussies Abroad: Sainsbury, Rukavytsya find the net in Israel

Trent Sainsbury has scored again for Maccabi Haifa as they cruised to a big win in the Israeli Premier League on Wednesday morning (AEDT).

The Socceroos defender scored his maiden goal for the club last month and backed it up with another in their 5-0 drubbing of Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Sainsbury struck the third goal of the match 10 minutes before half-time as the home side dominated from the outset.

Earlier, fellow Aussie Nikita Rukavytsya also got on the scoresheet as Maccabi raced to a 2-0 lead inside the first eight minutes at Sammy Ofer Stadium.

Further goals to Yanic Wildschut and Tjaronn Chery after the break completed the rout as Maccabi registered a fourth win from their last five league matches.

Sainsbury’s side remain in the hunt for the title, currently second and five points behind leaders Maccabi Tel Aviv.
