Aussies Abroad: Socceroos lift silverware, Ryan earns Premier League milestone

Maty Ryan achieved a personal milestone for Brighton & Hove Albion after he became the only player in his side to play every single minute of their 2019/20 Premier League season, while several Socceroos lifted silverware.

Maty Ryan and Aaron Mooy’s Brighton & Hove Albion wrapped up their Premier League season with a 2-1 win against Burnley on Monday morning.

Ryan put in a full game between the sticks for the 38th time this season which meant he became the only player within his side to play every minute of top flight football this campaign.

The Seagulls finish the season in 15th place on 41 points, two places and five points better off compared to the previous campaign.

In the Danish Superligaen, Awer Mabil played the full game for Midtjylland as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Aalborg on Monday morning, after which his side received the league trophy and their medals.

Mustafa Amini and Alex Gersbach’s AGF Aarhus suffered a 1-0 defeat against Brondby on Monday morning.

Both Aussies weren’t named in the matchday squad as their side finished the campaign in 3rd place for the first time in 23 years, which saw them receive medals.

Aziz Behich featured for the first half for Istanbul Basaksehir as they lost 3-2 away to Kasimpasa in their final league fixture on Monday morning.

His side were already crowned champions prior to this encounter, but they received the trophy and their medals after the match. Now, they can look forward to UEFA Champions League football next season.

In the meantime they still have a meeting with FC Kobenhavn next Thursday morning as they complete this season’s instalment of the UEFA Europa League.

O’Neill’s Pohang now sit in 3rd place on the league ladder with 24 points from their 13 matches.

Terry Antonis featured for Suwon Bluewings in their 1-0 win against Gwangju FC on Saturday night.

Antonis came on for the final four minutes of the encounter while Adam Taggart was absent for Suwon.

In the J League, Thomas Deng was absent for Urawa Red Diamonds as they recorded a 2-0 win at Yokohama FC on Sunday night.

Mitch Langerak’s Nagoya Grampus had their fixture against Sanfrecce Hiroshima postponed after an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Grampus camp.
