Aussies Abroad: Rogic returns in Celtic's Old Firm triumph

Caltex Socceroos star Tom Rogic made a winning return to Scottish Premiership action as Celtic edged Rangers 2-1 in Sunday night’s (AEDT) feisty Old Firm derby.

Rogic entered the fray as a 64th-minute substitute, marking the 26-year-old midfielder's first appearance in a Hoops shirt since Boxing Day.

Earlier, Rangers forward Alberto Morelos received his fifth red card of the season for elbowing Celtic skipper Scott Brown shortly after forward Odsonne Edouard had opened the scoring for the Bhoys.

Ryan Kent squared the ledger for Rangers, but James Forrest hit a late match-winner that puts Neil Lennon’s side a whopping 13 points ahead of their second-placed Glasgow rivals at the summit.

Meanwhile, Trent Sainsbury played his first Eredivisie minutes since December as PSV Eindhoven went down 3-1 to 10-man Ajax on Monday morning (AEDT).

Caltex Socceroos defender Sainsbury was introduced midway through the second half as a substitute after striker Luuk de Jong had cancelled out a 21st-minute own goal from Daniel Schwaab.

However, strikes from Dusan Tadic and David Neres handed the UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists a crucial victory, trimming Eindhoven’s lead at the Eredivisie summit to two points.

Aziz Behich was an unused substitute for Mark van Bommel’s side.
