Tom Rogic started and played 58 minutes as a late winner from Leigh Griffiths helped Celtic begin their campaign with a 1-0 win over Rosenborg.

Rogic was dangerous throughout his stint on the pitch and had several efforts at goal picked off before his substitution for Scott Sinclair on the hour mark.

Brendan Rodgers’ side continued to knock on the door and were ultimately rewarded when Griffiths bundled home an 87th minute header.

Alex Gersbach was named on the bench for Rosenborg but did not come on.

Danny Vukovic kept a clean sheet on his UEFA Europa League debut as Genk cruised past Malmo 2-0.

Goals in each half from Leandro Trossard and Mbwana Samatta set up a straightforward evening for the 33-year-old, who was rarely called into action as the Belgian heavyweights dominated the contest at the Cristal Arena.

Meanwhile, Apostolos Giannou played a full match as AEK Larnaca fell 1-0 to FC Zurich in their UEFA Europa League opener.

The Caltex Socceroos forward supplied two goals and three assists during Larnaca’s qualification campaign but was unable to inspire the Cypriot outfit here, who succumbed to Benjamin Kololli’s second half penalty.

In Saudi Arabia, Matthew Jurman played 90 minutes as Al Ittihad went down 5-3 to Al Taawon in the Saudi Pro League.
