Aussies Abroad Preview: Socceroos trio set to feature across the globe

The international break means that there will only be a handful of Socceroos stars gearing up for league fixtures this weekend.

With most leagues put on hold due to the international break, there will only be three Socceroos players in league action with Japanese based Mitch Langerak and Thomas Deng set to feature in the J League while Bailey Wright will be lining up for League One side Sunderland.

Starting in Japan, Langerak will be donning the gloves for Nagoya Grampus when they entertain FC Tokyo at 9pm on Sunday night.

Nagoya’s three game winning streak and three straight clean sheets for Langerak came crashing down midweek as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

They keep hold of 4th place in the Japanese top flight however 5th placed Cerezo Osaka are equal on points with them and have two games in hand over the Aussie shot stopper’s side.

Their upcoming match against Tokyo who sit directly above them won’t be made easier by the fact that the team from the capital claimed a 1-0 victory in their first meeting in August.

Elsewhere, Deng will be hoping for a starting berth when his Urawa Red Diamonds take on Yokohama F. Marinos at 6pm on Saturday.

Deng’s side are one of the form sides in the competition – undefeated in their last six league encounters.

Urawa sit in 9th position ahead of their weekend’s clash against Yokohama who occupy 7th spot but have played four more matches.

Three points for the Red Diamonds this Saturday will be enough for them to overtake their opponents on the league ladder.

Wright will be in the heart of defence for Sunderland when they host MK Dons in the English League One at 2am on Sunday.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in their last three league fixtures but have not had the best of weeks with back-to-back defeats in the FA Cup and EFL trophy respectively.

Wright and his are situated in 6th ahead of their match while the Dons are teetering on the edge of the relegation spots in 19th.
