Aussies Abroad Preview: Old Firm derby headlines enticing weekend

An Old Firm derby for Aaron Mooy’s Celtic headlines a huge weekend for Socceroos in action all over the world.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy and Celtic will be hoping to continue their winning start to the season when face Rangers FC on Saturday at 9:30pm (AEST) in the Old Firm derby. 

Celtic warmed up for the clash by beating Ross County 4-1 on Thursday in the Scottish League Cup while Rangers beat Queen of the South 3-1 on Wednesday. Mooy made his first start for the club and played the entire 90 minutes. 

With both sides are unbeaten in the SPFL and Rangers having dropped two points at Hibernian a week ago, the first meeting of the two Glasgow rivals at Celtic Park is a big opportunity to strike a blow in the title race.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Nathaniel Atkinson's Heart of Midlothian face Livington on Sunday at 12am (AEST).  Atkinson did not feature as Hearts lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock on Thursday at 4:45am (AEST) in the Scottish League Cup while Rowles was missing due to a foot injury sustained in their last match. 

Rowles could be sidelined for up to eight weeks, however, he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the World Cup.

Martin Boyle and Olyroo Lewis Miller will also be in action when Hibernian face Kilmarnock on Sunday at 12am (AEST) while Aziz Behich's Dundee United travel to Motherwell on Sunday at 12am. Behich started and played 90 minutes in United's 2-1 Scottish League Cup win over Livingston on  Thursday. 


In England, Riley McGree and Middlesbrough will line up against Bailey Wright's Sunderland on Tuesday at 5am (AEST). McGree played 90 minutes as Middlesbrough lost 2-1 against Watford in the Championship on Wednesday while Wright came off the bench in the 83rd minute as Sunderland beat Rotherham 3-0 on Thursday. 

Elsewhere in the Championship, Kenny Dougall could be in action when Blackpool face off against Huddersfield on Monday at 12am (AEST). Dougall also started and played 90 minutes on Thursday as Blackpool lost 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers. 

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman could feature on the bench when Dougall's Blackpool face Huddersfield on Monday. 

Tyrese Francois will be looking to make a Premier League appearance when Fulham travel to Tottenham on Sunday at 12am (AEST). Francois was an unused substitute in Fulham's 2-1 Premier League win against Brighton on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Ryan McGowan's St. Johnston take on Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain's St. Mirren on Sunday at 12am (AEST) while Dylan McGowan could be in action when Kilmarnock face Hibernian on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Cameron Devlin for Hearts against Phillip Cancar's Livington on Sunday at 12am (AEST).  

In England, Callum Elder's Hull City face Sheffield United on Sunday at 12am (AEST) in the Championship while Caleb Watts could feature for Morecambe against Bristol Rovers on Sunday at 12am (AEST) in League One. 

Elsewhere in League One, Jack Iredale could feature as Bolton take on Charlton on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

Europe

Starting in Denmark, Mat Ryan will be looking to continue his impressive form since joining FC Copenhagen when they take on Silkeborg on Saturday at 3am (AEST). 


Elsewhere in the Danish Superliga, Joel King's Odense Boldklub will be looking for three wins in a row when they host Viborg on Sunday at 10pm (AEST). 

In Spain, Awer Mabil and Cádiz CF will be hoping for their first win of the LaLiga season when they travel to Celta Vigo on Saturday at 5am (AEST). Mabil came off the bench in the 61st minute as Cádiz suffered a 4-0 defeat to Athletic Club on Tuesday. 

In Germany,  Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe will be looking to propel St. Pauli from 11th on the 2. Bundesliga ladder when they host SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday at 9pm (AEST). 

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic could make his debut for Serie A side Hellas Verona when they take on Sampdoria on Monday at 2am (AEST). Hrustic signed for the club on Thursday after a successful two-year stint with Eintracht Frankfurt. 

In Serie B, Fran Karacic and Brescia Calcio will be looking to back to back wins when they host Perugia on Saturday at 10pm (AEST) in Serie B. Karacic started and played 90 minutes at right-back as Brescia beat Como 1-0 on Tuesday. 

In France, Toulouse and Denis Genreau will be looking to bounce back from defeat against PSG when they travel to Clermont Foot on Sunday at 11pm (AEST). Genreau was an unused substitute as Toulouse lost 3-0 against PSG on Thursday.

In Belgium, Jason Davidson and James Jeggo's K.A.S. Eupen face off against Kortrijk on Sunday at 2:15 am (AEST). Jeggo continued his return from injury by starting in Eupen's last Belgian Pro League league match. 


In Olyroos abroad news, Alou Kuol could be involved with VfB Stuttgart's first team squad when they host Schalke on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEST). While he was an unused substitute, Kuol featured on the bench for the first time in Stuttgart's last game against Koln. 

Josh Rawlins could be in action for Jong FC Utrecht in the Eerste Divisie on Saturday at 4am (AEST) when they host VVV-Venlo. Rawlins started and played 63 minutes as Utrecht drew 0-0 with Willem II on Tuesday.

In Austria, James Holland's FK Austria Wien take on SC Austria Lustenau on Sunday at 1am (AEST) in the Austrian Bundesliga. 

In Germany, John Iredale's SV Wehen Wiesbaden take on 1. FC Saarbrücken on Tuesday at 3am (AEST) in the 3. Liga.

In France's Ligue 2, Alex Gersbach could be in action for Grenoble Foot 38 against Amiens SC on Saturday at 4:45 am (AEST). Gersbach has played every minute for Grenoble so far this season. 

Elsewhere in France, Mohamed Touré and Yaya Dukuly could be in action for Stade de Reims 2 against US Boulogne CO on Sunday at 1am (AEST). 

In Croatia, Anthony Kalik's Hajduk Split take on NK Slaven Belupo in the Croatian Football League on Monday at 5:05am (AEST) while Deni Juric's HNK Gorica take on NK Varaždin on Sunday at 2:55am (AEST).

In Greece, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos could be in action for PAS Giannina against AEK Athens F.C. on Monday at 4:30am (AEST).

Meanwhile, in the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya's Maccabi Haifa will be in action against Hapoel Be'er Sheva F.C. on Sunday at 3:15am (AEST).

Asia & The Middle East

Starting in Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury lined up and played 90 minutes for Al-Wakrah on Tuesday as they drew 0-0 with Markhiya. Sainsbury will be in action again when Al-Wakrah face Al Ahli on Thursday at 3:20am (AEST). 


In Japan, Adam Taggart could line up for Cerezo Osaka when they travel to Consadole Sapporo on Friday at 8:30pm (AEST). Cerezo will be looking to bounce back after dropping to sixth in the J1 League. 

Elsewhere in Japan,  Mitch Duke's Fagiano Okayama face Machida Zelvia on Sunday at 8pm (AEST). Duke played 77 minutes against Montedio Yamagata on Wednesday as Fagiano won 2-0.

Other Aussies in Action

Stefan Mauk could also feature alongside Duke for Fagiano Okayama against Machida Zelvia on Sunday at 8pm (AEST) while Thomas Deng's Albirex Niigata face Oita Trinita on Saturday at 7pm (AEST) in the J2 League.

In Korea, Alex Grant will be in action for Pohang Steelers against Daegu on Saturday at 5:30pm (AEST) while Harrison Delbridge's Incheon United face Gangwon on Friday at 8:30pm (AEST) in the K League.

The United States

Finishing with Major League Soccer, where Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek and his Columbus Crew side will be in action when they face Chicago on Sunday at 7:30am (AEST).  Currently, in seventh on the MLS Eastern Conference, Columbus are looking to solidify their final series play-off position.
