Aussies Abroad Preview: Mabil kicks off La Liga season, Serie B starts for Karacic & Ryan could debut

The La Liga season kicking off for Awer Mabil and Serie B starting for Fran Karacic headline this weekend's Aussies abroad action while Mat Ryan could make his Copenhagen debut.

Europe

Starting in Spain, where Awer Mabil could make his La Liga debut when Cádiz CF kick off their season by hosting Real Sociedad on Monday at 1:30am (AEST). 

Having returned to the Spanish top flight for the first time in 14 Years in 2020, Cádiz's aim will once again be to avoid relegation. They will be under no illusions that it is going to be easy but they have avoided relegation in their last two seasons so they know what it takes.  

In Italy, Fran Karacic will also kick off the Serie B season with Brescia Calcio when they host F.C. Südtirol on Monday at 4:45am (AEST). 

Having finished fourth last season, Brescia will be hoping to return to Serie A for the first time in 11 years. 


In the Danish Superliga, Mat Ryan could also make his F.C. Copenhagen debut when they host Randers on Sunday at 5am (AEST).

Elsewhere in Denmark, Joel King's Odense Boldklub will be looking to record their first win of the season when they travel to Brøndby IF on Monday at 2am (AEST). 

Following defeat in their last 2. Bundesliga outing against FC Kaiserslautern,  Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe will be hoping St. Pauli can bounce back when they host FC Magdeburg on Sunday at 9:30pm (AEST). 


Elsewhere in Germany, Ajdin Hrustic could be in action when Eintracht Frankfurt travel to Hertha BSC on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEST). 

In France, Toulouse and Denis Genreau will be looking to get their first Ligue 1 victory when they travel to ES Troyes AC on Sunday at 11pm (AEST). Toulouse drew 1-1 with OGC Nice in their opening day Ligue 1 return last weekend. 

In Belgium, Jason Davidson and James Jeggo's K.A.S. Eupen host league leaders Royal Antwerp F.C. on Monday at 12am (AEST). 

In Olyroos abroad news, Alou Kuol could feature in VfB Stuttgart's match against SV Werder Bremen on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEST) while Josh Rawlins could be in action for FC Utrecht when they host SC Cambuur on Sunday at 4am (AEST) in the Eredivisie.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy will be aiming to make another appearance for Celtic when they travel to Kilmarnock on Sunday at 9pm (AEST). 

Elsewhere in the Scottish Premiership, Aziz Behich will be looking to make his Dundee United debut when they travel to Nathaniel Atkinson and Kye Rowles' Heart of Midlothian on Monday at 12am (AEST). Behich made his Dundee debut in the second leg of the EUROPA conference league play-off against AZ Alkmaar on Friday. He started and played 56 minutes as United lost 7-0. 

Hearts will want to get back to winning ways following Martin Boyle's last-minute equaliser against Hibernian in their last outing.

Still on a high from his dream re-introduction to Scottish football, Boyle could make another appearance alongside Olyroo Lewis Miller when Hibs travel to Livingston on Monday at 12am (AEST). 

In England, Riley McGree and Middlesbrough will want to bounce back from last week's defeat when they host Sheffield United at 11pm (AEST) on Sunday. 

Elsewhere in the Championship, Kenny Dougall could be in action when Blackpool host Swansea City on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Dougall started and played 61 minutes as Blackpool found themselves on the wrong end of an upset after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the first round stage by League Two side Barrow. Dougall's side were beaten 4-3 on penalties after the game ended goalless at Bloomfield Road.


Bailey Wright's Sunderland will also be in action when they host Queens Park Rangers on Sunday at 12am (AEST). Wright started and played 90 minutes as Sunderland lost 2-0 against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

In Olyroos Abroad news, Jacob Chapman could feature in Huddersfield's squad to take on Stoke City on Sunday at 12am (AEST). Goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic also featured on the bench as Huddersfield were thumped 4-1 by Preston in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. 

In League Two, Lachlan Brook will be looking to continue his impressive run of form when Crewe Alexandra FC travel to Salford City on Sunday at 12am (AEST). Brook was also an unused sub as Crewe lost 0-4 to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, Tyrese Francois will be looking to feature in the matchday squad again when Fulham travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Asia & The Middle East

Starting in Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury lined up for Al-Wakrah on Thursday. The Socceroos defender played 90 minutes as Al-Wakrah drew 1-1 with Al-Gharafa SC. Sainsbury will be in action again when Al-Wakrah play Umm Salal SC on Tuesday at 2:35am (AEST). 

In Japan, Adam Taggart started and played the first half as Cerezo Osaka staged a miraculous comeback from 2-0 down in the second leg of their J. League Cup tie against Kawasaki Frontale. Cerezo scored both of their goals in the 90th minute to draw 2-2 on the night and progress to the semi-finals on the away goals rule. 

Cerezo travel to FC Tokyo on Saturday at 8pm (AEST) in J.League action as they look to break into the top two. 


Elsewhere in Japan, Mitch Duke's Fagiano Okayama face off against Renofa Yamaguchi FC on Saturday at 8pm (AEST). Fagiano will be hoping to record back-to-back victories and climb from fourth position on the J2 League ladder. 

The United States

Finishing with Major League Soccer, where Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek and his Columbus Crew side will be in action on Sunday at 11am (AEST) when they travel to Colorado Rapids. Columbus will be looking to record back-back victories as they try to hold their finals series play-off position with 11 games remaining in the MLS Eastern Conference.
