Aussies Abroad Preview: Mooy vs Strain & Baccus in Scotland

With one last weekend of club action before heading into camp, Aaron Mooy's Celtic face Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain's St Mirren in another big weekend of Aussies Abroad action.

Socceroos and Olyroos Abroad

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy and Celtic will be hoping to continue their winning start to the Scottish Premiership season when they travel to Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain's St Mirren on Sunday at 9pm (AEST). 

Fresh from their first Socceroos call-ups, Baccus and Strain will be looking to continue their impressive individual form against the league leaders. 


Mooy came off the bench in the 68th minute to replace Matt O'Riley at the base of the midfield three as Celtic drew 1-1 against FC Shakhtar Donetsk in their second UEFA Champions League match on Thursday.

Martin Boyle and Olyroo Lewis Miller's Hibernian will also be in action against Aberdeen on Sunday at 12am (AEST) while Aziz Behich's Dundee United face Rangers on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

Fresh from a maiden Socceroos call-up, Cameron Devlin will face Motherwell on Monday at 12am (AEST) alongside Nathaniel Atkinson at Heart of Midlothian. 


Devlin also played 90 minutes and registered an assist as Hearts won 2-0 against FK Rīgas Futbola Skola on Friday in the UEFA Europa League. Atkinson was an unused substitute. 

In England, Riley McGree's Middlesbrough face off against Rotherham on Sunday at 4:45am (AEST) in the Championship. 

McGree played 90 minutes against Cardiff as Boro lost 3-2 on Wednesday at the Riverside stadium. 

Meanwhile, Kenny Dougall's Blackpool also take on Millwall Sunday at 12am (AEST) in the Championship. Dougall also played 84 minutes against Rotherham in a 3-0 loss on Thursday.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Bailey Wright's Sunderland take on Watford on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic could feature on the bench when Huddersfield face Cardiff City at 12am (AEST) on Sunday. Bilokapic was also on the bench in a 2-1 loss against Wigan on Wednesday.

In League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman could feature for Salford City when they face Tranmere on Sunday at 12am (AEST). Chapman was an unused substitute on Wednesday against Harrogate Town after joining Salford on loan until January as Huddersfield reshaped their squad on transfer deadline day.

Europe

Starting in Denmark, where Mat Ryan's FC Copenhagen take on FC Midtjylland on Monday at 2am (AEST) as they look to bounce back from defeat in their last Danish Superliga match. 

Ryan also played in a 0-0 draw against Sevilla in Copenhagen's second UEFA Champions League match on Thursday.

Elsewhere in Denmark, Joel King's Odense Boldklub face Lyngby Boldklub as they look to make it three league wins in a row on Sunday at 10pm (AEST). 

In Germany, Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe will be looking for back-to-back wins when St. Pauli travel to SSV Jahn Regensburg on Sunday at 9:30pm (AEST). 


In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic could be in action when Hellas Verona they take on Fiorentina on Sunday at 11pm (AEST). Hrustic made his Serie A debut for Hellas on Monday after coming off the bench in the 70th minute as his side lost 2-0 to Lazio.

In Serie B, Fran Karačić and Brescia Calcio face Benevento Calcio on Saturday at 4:30am (AEST) as they look to make it three wins in a row. 

In France, Toulouse and Denis Genreau will be looking for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they travel to LOSC Lille on Sunday at 5am (AEST). 

In Belgium, Jason Davidson and James Jeggo's K.A.S. Eupen face off against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Monday at 12am (AEST). 

In Spain, Awer Mabil could be in action when Cádiz CF face Real Valladolid CF on Saturday at 5am (AEST). 


After joining HNK Gorica on loan from Fulham and receiving his first Socceroos call-up in the same month, Tyrese Francois could feature for Gorica against NK Osijek on Sunday at 12:55am (AEST) in the Croatian Football League. 

In Olyroos abroad news, Alou Kuol could also feature for VfB Stuttgart II when they take on VfR Aalenon Sunday at 10pm (AEST). 

Meanwhile, Josh Rawlins could be in action for Jong FC Utrecht in the Eerste Divisie on Saturday at 4am (AEST) when play NAC. Rawlins came off the bench in the 64th minute as  Jong FC Utrecht drew 1-1 with Den Haag on Tuesday. 

Hosine Bility could also feature for Mafra against Académico de Viseu on Saturday at 8pm (AEST) in the Liga Portugal 2. 

Asia & The Middle East

Starting in Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury lined up and played another 90 minutes for Al-Wakrah on Thursday as they beat Al Sadd 2-1. Sainsbury will be in action again when Al-Wakrah face Qatar SC on Tuesday at 3:05am (AEST). Al-Wakrah currently sit in second position in the Qatar Stars League as they chase the title. 


In the J1 League, Adam Taggart could line up for Cerezo Osaka when face Júbilo Iwata on Saturday at 7pm (AEST). 

Elsewhere in the J1 League, Mitch Langerak will be hoping to put in another solid display after his Socceroos recall when Nagoya Grampus take on Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Langerak's Nagoya also drew 1-1 with Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday.

In the J2 League, Mitch Duke's Fagiano Okayama face V-Varen Nagasaki on Saturday at 8pm (AEST). Duke was also played 67 minutes against Tokushima Vortis as Fagiano lost 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere in the J2 League, Thomas Deng will be hoping to mark his Socceroos recall with a win when Albirex Niigata
take on Mito HollyHock on Sunday at 7pm (AEST). 

The United States

Finishing with Major League Soccer, where Socceroos defender Miloš Degenek and his Columbus Crew side will be in action when they face Portland on Monday at 3am (AEST). Degenek played another 90 minutes for Columbus as they lost 2-1 to Inter Miami on Wednesday.

  • In Austria, James Holland's FK Austria Wien take on Ried on Sunday at 10:30pm (AEST) in the Austrian Bundesliga. 
  • In France's Ligue 2, Alex Gersbach could be in action for Grenoble Foot 38 against Caen on Sunday at 3am (AEST). Gersbach has played every minute for Grenoble so far this season.
  • Elsewhere in France, Mohamed Touré and Yaya Dukuly could be in action for Stade de Reims 2 against Fleury 91
    on Sunday at 2am (AEST). 
  • In Germany, John Iredale's SV Wehen Wiesbaden take on SV Waldhof on Saturday at 10pm (AEST) in the 3. Liga.
  • In Croatia, Anthony Kalik's Hajduk Split take on Istra 1961 in the Croatian Football League on Sunday at 3:05am (AEST) while Deni Juric's HNK Gorica take on NK Osijek on Sunday at 12:55am (AEST).

  • In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya's Maccabi Haifa will be in action against Hapoel Jerusalem on Monday at 3:15am (AEST). Rukavytsya also came off the bench in the 91st minute as Maccabi lost 3-1 to PSG in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday. 
  • In the K League 1, Alex Grant's Pohang Steelers face Seongnam on Sunday at 5:30am (AEST). 
  • In K League 2, Ryan Edwards' Busan IPark take on Gimpo FC on Saturday at 5pm (AEST) while Aaron Calver's Gwangju FC face Ansan Greeners FC on Monday at 8:30pm (AEST).
