Aussies Abroad: Mabil helps Midtjylland win penalty shootout to progress in Danish Cup

Awer Mabil and his Midtjylland squeezed past FC Kobenhavn in a penalty shootout to secure their place in the quarter finals of the Danish Cup.

Mabil’s side edged out the men from the capital in a high intensity affair in Copenhagen on Friday morning (AEDT) with the reigning champions coming out on top 6-5 in the penalty shootout after the score was locked at 1-1 after extra time.

Both goals arrived in the opening 10 minutes of the contest with Midtjylland drawing first blood in the 3rd minute before their hosts replied just six minutes later.

Mabil replaced goal scorer Sory Kaba in the 74th minute and went on to score the first penalty for his side as they claimed victory in the shootout.

Odense await the Danish champions in the quarter finals with the first leg set to be played on the morning of February 11.
